Demodex

Hi there!

Ozzy has a small area on his nose that is fur-less. I took him to the vet in May and they took a scraping, but said nothing "live" was on the slide (no mites). The vet thought maybe he had rubbed it against something and it would go away. It didn't go away. I took him back to the vet this week. Saw a different vet this time. She did another scraping and said that it was localized demodex. She suggested that we put neosporin on it daily and it should go away. She said that it is not uncommon for young dogs to have this while their immune system is still developing.

Can any of you share your experiences with mites or demodex? I am hopeful that it will go away on it's own. The vet did say that she thought the hair around his eyes might also be thinning.

My poor baby. His first birthday is on Labor Day and he has to celebrate with an ugly spot on his nose. Fortunately, it does not itch or bother him at all. It just looks even more fur-less now that they scraped it!

Any other suggestions on how to accelerate the healing?

Thanks!

Sara and Ozzy
