Deer antlers are a hit!

Took Thor today to Keltons for their free dog wash and like always, I try to buy a treat or something for Thor once we finish his bath. Plus, I do it so they will stay in business and keep the wash free! I love the fact that they have an inside dog wash and it's free! They supply everything and even have a dryer (but it does nothing really for Thor). Well, while looking for treats I saw their sign saying that the deer antlers are upfront, so I went to get one. Once I was in the car, Thor started sniffing me like crazy, so I handed over the antler. haha It has been a blast watching him run around with it.

On a sad note, I had to trim his feathers tonight. I've fought doing this and only did a little, but for some reason Thor will pee on his feathers once in a while and I'm hoping a small trim might help with this issue. *sigh* Thank god they grow fast!!! I wanted to cry while trimming them, heck even my husband said "WOW, I can't believe you are doing it" because he has been trying to get me to let him trim them for over a month!

Our kids love their antlers too. Nice that they do free dog washes our pet store has a wash but you have to pay for it.

As for trimming the feathers I trimmed Bailey's pee pee bug hairs and part of is tummy hairs instead. He was peeing all over himself too and trimming up the hairs seemed to redirect the flow. Course he still pee's into the wind and steps into his puddle afterward so on occasion we still have to wipe him down.

That's so cool you can do free baths! I pay $20 for a self wash place (though it's a really nice self wash place with tubs that move up and down as well as the shampoo being mixed into the water and k9III dryers).

Suki enjoys her antlers too (though she prefers moose to deer or elk). I found the antlers to be really expensive in nearby pet stores (around $20 for a smallish one). But I found this online store with good prices when there is a sale. www.adkantlers.com I have only bought antlers from them not toys or treats. And there is a coupon code "justdogs" that gives another 25% off. So when they have a sale and I use the coupon it's a good deal.

Ah! Ok, I will have to try that to see if this helps! The issue is he has started lifting his leg (in Dec) and will sometimes move too much? I will try to get his attention and stop that from happening if I catch it.

This place, I was able to buy a good size antler for about 10 dollars and the guy there explained to me which ones I want. He pretty much talked me out of the ones with the most marrow because he said the less marrow, the longer it will last. I really love this place! It's like a tractor supply, but more mom and pop.

The dog wash is nice. They have a small set up in the back area, with hot/cold water, soap (two kinds and a cond), you get 30 mins, and are allowed to bring the same dog once a month. We will even mop up after ourselves just to be nice and lord knows Thor makes a HUGE mess.

Bailey and especially Coleman had a wondering eye and would pee in what ever direction they were looking :) Bailey would loose his balance as a youngster and pee all over himself then too.

Thankfully he has taken after Coleman and just kinda stands and leans foreward a bit or will just stand and pick up one leg so his foot is just off the ground.

How could she NOT prefer Moose, he is handsome! ;) Couldn't resist. Thanks for the heads up on the good coupon and deal - I didn't want to spend a lot on an antler but Moose is fascinated by them at the pet store and they'd last a lot longer than bully sticks!

Where is this place??
It's Wash 'N Wiggles in Morris Plains. Is that close to you? (Oh, if you go Thursday nights 5 - 8 PM (I think that this the right time) you get $5 off). We had self wash places in Colorado, but nothing as nice as this. I love that Suki does not have to jump down from the tub.

Well, of course, Suki's first choice of thing to play with would be your Moose! and then perhaps the more commonly known moose the animal, then the moose antlers ... :)
