Collar help

I have arthritis in my fingers and I'm having trouble working with a Lupine martingale collar. Our trainer said we had it too loose, and it has to be put on, then tightened. With my arthritis it is very difficult for me to do this. Is there a Martingale collar that would be easier to loosen and tighten? Or should I just switch to a different kind?

I have no idea about the martingale collar as I haven't used one but I use a half check and that's very easy to slip on and off

That's interesting - I have never had to adjust as you take on and off.

I any case, we now have several of the martingale's that Jessica (Millie's mom - sn Milliejb) makes. They are awesome and much easier to adjust than the lupine ones. They've help up incredibly well. Maybe that would help you.

You can PM her. She has an Etsy store too. There are pics in the "collars" thread a ways back under the Newfie Stuff for Sale. I'll see if I can find the Etsy link and edit if I can.

Thank you. I found the link on Etsy and have one all picked out (the shamrock design). Going to go order it now. BTW, we never adjusted our previous collars either. Trying to listen to the trainer, but too much of a pain taking it on and off several times a day. We had a handmade one similar to what I'm buying now, and it was much easier to adjust. Thanks for all the help.

Mine just fit over the head when adjusted, i have never adjusted mine whilst on the dog...I hope you can find an easier one..Mine are Rogz and also think I have several jessica ones given to us by Dawn, but they are our "going out" dress tidy ones :)..I love them

I adjusted ours only once so they fit on and off the head easily. the martingale can do this as the added control piece tightens the collar down when needed. Ours is all material no chain for the control piece.

When I fit a martingale, I ensure when tightened it fits like buckle collar and does not "choke". Some trainers prefer to use martingales as correction collars. If they are tightened enough, they will provide a correction, though not as severe as a choke chain.

Some trainers want martingale collars to be tighter so they will stay higher on the neck for easier "correction". I rarely use one as I use a slip lead and transition from that right to a flat collar when trained. If you're having control problems, that might be why the trainer wants it tighter (or if it's like my boy, he has a BIG head compared to neck so a regular "choke chain" is out of position when slipped over his head).
