Clippers?

This is probably for our Groomer in Residence, Jeannie, but anyone else jump in. In another post I told how Gracie has some awful skin problems. After another trip to the vet and some skin scrapings, it seems she has a yeast infection. I was thinking of giving her a modified puppy cut so I can bath her better with the medicated shampoo. Sooo, any suggestions about what kind of clipper to use, size of blade and how short should I take it?
Thanks in advance.

Clipping her down could be the worst thing you do for her. Remember when you take her coat shorter, say leaving it about 2 inches long, all you are doing is removing the guard hairs which can cause her coat to really become a mess. If I were you I'd comb out the undercoat. The undercoat will hold moisture next to the skin because it can be so thick the skin cannot breathe nor dry out. Most yeast infections are bacteria that grow in warm moist places. (like the type of yeast infections that women get) so drying the dog all the way to the skin is important. Do you have a good dryer? If not you should get one. No matter what medicated shampoo you use if you are not getting the dog dry to the skin the bacteria will still grow. The Mars Coat King is another item you will need. Get the 18 blade double wide. www.groomersmall.com

If the coat is really long I'd use shears and just trim off the long ends. You will be surprised at how much the coat is easier to keep if you just trim off the long straggly ends.

Thanks, Jeannie,
I do have a Mars coat king. I just thought clipping her down would be good for her. I do have a dog dryer too. I'll try the shears and the coat king and see if that improves things for her. Thanks for the input.

Just a thought....when Maggie was having lots of skin issues after we got her she also was diagnosed with a yeast infection. In addition to medicated shampoo, she was prescribed diflucan (just like what they would give us for a yeast infection). It took care of the problem really quickly.

If the shampoo doesn't take care of it you could ask about that.

Thanks, Brandie. The vet did give me Rx for that as well and an antibiotic. Gonna lick this (no pun intended). ;)
