Carting

Sooo.... one of the benefits to going to Ocean city, is getting to talk to so many Newf owners about things they do with their newfs etc....
I currently do Pet therapy with Millie but would very much like to do more.
Millie LOVES to swim but (don't tell her I told you) she's a sinker! Yep, thats right, my little fireball that swims over the waves NEEDS that life jacket or she would be a goner!
Which brings me to carting...... Millie has a lot of energy and I think she needs a "job"
So after that long winded message, here comes my favor... anyone have a cart that they are no longer using that would like to sell or have a suggestion on where I can get one cheaper to start off. Its all new to me, and fortunetly I have some peeps that are willing to work with us but I need to look into getting a cart to start.
Thanks!!

Anyone handy at your house ? I have plans to make a simple cart. The cart looks like the one in my picture.

I would start her off with pulling some milk jugs and then a simple home made travois. You can make a travois out of just about anything...two old hockey sticks, or electrical conduit or anything long enough to make shafts. You will need a proper harness, but at least you won't invest too much in the beginning. Also do lots of work on carting commands before hitching her to a cart. If she has lots of energy, a good solid halt, a reliable stay and turn commands for starters.

Jess...I would be willing to take a weekend carting clinic/seminar with you guys, but I can't find one close to our area. I can only find draft tests and we're certainly not ready for that. I wish I could help you out with the cart thing, but we still use ours for several parades each year. Our harness was from Wilczek Woodworks and he was on the phone with me making sure his measurements were just right before he made Chumley's harness. When I bought a cart from him, he offered to save expensive shipping costs by bringing the cart with him for the Bernese nationals in my area.
