I was thinking of building another cart for Venus. I looked at the NCA Draft regs. I didn't see anything about size of cart. Have attached picture of our first cart. It is 26"L X 15" w with 20" wheels. I see Dogworks have several sizes. Is it better to have a wide cart? I have seen some at Draft test's carts look like 33"l x 22"w. We are just getting into carting, right now it's just for fun, and Venus is only going to be 3 years old. Also is there anything like a Draft match, like a judged fun match.

WE sell detailed easy to follow plans for the cart on the website listed below. It is the cart with the sideboards. PM me is you are interested. I have used this cart in draft tests. In fact one year at the nationals 3 of our carts were in use. You can take the sideboards off for the test, then add them when/if you want to give children rides.

Is it better to have a wide cart?
I'm no expert at this, so I hope others will give input too...
But I think it depends on your dog. My girl is narrow, so we have a narrow cart. She is also tall, so this could be a bad combo for a cart...tall/narrow. On certain terrains it may be tippy. We haven't had any problems, but low and wide is definitely more stable. One problem with being too wide is that is might decrease the maneuverability of the cart. For a test the course is set to the widest cart entered (except for the narrows which are adjusted for each cart), so you would have a slight advantage by not being the widest cart!
