Camping

Hi Guys .
We are going camping over this easter long weekend and are going to take Tayla with us.
She has never really been tied up before but we are not sure wether or not we can trust her not to run off all of the time.
The place we are staying is on a river so at least she can swim and I'm sure there will be plenty of kids around willing to play with the big bear. Our tent is big enough that she can sleep in it at night.
Has anyone else camped with their Newfie before?
Wish us luck I have the feeling we may need it.

Hey Nicole,
Haven't yet camped with our Newf, but we've done lots of camping with our German Shepherd. We too let him sleep in our tent with us, it's really cozy.
When we have gone camping with Jake we have never tied him, but he's great about hanging withus. I know when we go camping with Ben he'll have to be tied if he is outside while we are in the trailer. (We've moved up from a 4 man tent to a 28 ft. trailer, now with 2 dogs and 2 kids it was a necessity.
) If I were you I would definitely tie your Newf unless you're with him all the time, Iknow alot of campsites require your dog to be on a leash or tied. And with that river being so close by and surrounded by children, there are alot of Newfy temptations around even for the best behaved Newf. Have fun, and take lots of pix.

we took sara and sam camping one time. You really don't want to know about it, but I will give you the reader's digest version.

Cat in campground, me have sam on lead out to potty, sam sees cat, takes off and rips the lead from my hand, runs past barefoot gary who cannot get a hold of her due to the gravel. Sam runs down hill crashing through leaves and shrubs I run after her as gary gets shoes on. Happy ending cat must have run up tree because sam comes back--luckily.

I took Misha camping with me first before she was one year old - she's two now and we've already been camping together four times. For my summer vacations I always go camping just because I can take her with me.

Misha is usually tied infront of the tent(when we are in or in front of the tent). Our tent is not big enough for her to join me and my boyfriend (even he has to sleep diagonal so he can strech his legs). But she enjoys sleeping outside - usually close to the tent, but not always. Misha is never tied at home, but she was O.K. with it.

Misha loves to go camping with us. No wonder - we are together 24 hours a day and usually we go to the sea side or to the lake, so she can swim her heart out. Well she doesn't usually swim until we do, but she would swim for hours with us (I'm usually the one to stop the fun, because I'm frozen).

Other campers usually like her - well you get to meet some people that belive dogs are filhty and do not belong in the water or anywhere lese, but... Most of the times we meet really nice people just because of her. Sometimes people want to pet her just because they miss their pet that's left at home. I know how they feel, that's one of the reasons I take Misha with me.
Now we've got a cat too and I would love to have her with me too... well I had to promise my boyfriend before we decided on keeping the cat, that she would stay at home
.

Whow, this really turned out long. Hope I didn't bored you all to death.

Have a wonderful time camping. I wish we could do that, but my husband will only camp in a tent if it has cable!

The only advice I can give is to make sure you have some tick pervention.
Have a great time, cant wait to see the pictures!

We have a pop up.... it's a Coleman Taos... the smallest one they have. There are to sliding out beds, one on each end.

We went camping a couple of years ago. It was a parish retreat. The dogs came along, of course. After all, other's brought their kids, so why not bring ours.

Russell & I slept in one bed, while Cora and Sadie slept on the other. It went very well.
The dogs were a hit!

We haven't been brave enough to try this with Kira....

LOL!
