When I got Sally. I had met some newfs and talked with the owner. I asked this question, "Are brown newfs suppose to be more money then blacks and landseers?" She said no.My question is does it go by color or by the individual pups standard? Agian I not sure since I am a new parent and new to this breed. Are there guidleines to this topic? Please freely express your experience as I would love to know.

Color *shouldn't* have any affect on price. It should all be about the breeder and what they charge. This said, you can certainly find breeders out there advertising "rare colors" and charging more for them. And it should raise a big red flag to prospective puppy buyers.

Yes I have seen that. And the lady with the two newfs I visited said something to that effect. Thanks for clearing that up.

A good dog is always the right color. I know with horses though- some colors will bring a higher price. Black, buckskin, palomino - those will bring higher prices than the normal colored ones. However, I disagree with breeding for color - at least in horses. Oftentimes conformation is sacrificed for color and that should never happen.

I heard through my searching for a Newf that Landseer were generally a little more. But not a big difference.

All of the reputable breeders I know or know of, charge one price for their newfs regardless of color or show quality or pet quality.

I run from any breeder that is charging more for any given color especially a color they might call rare. These 'rare' colors are very often but not always an unacceptable color as defeined by the breed standard. A newf that is an unacceptable color may be shown in obedience and working events but not the conformantion ring.

When I did my last puppy search, I ran across a breeder who I thought was reputable, until she quoted prices by color. Later, when I got a puppy from another breeder and the first one found out she was an unusual color, she began to fire emails to me asking about what was charged, who was the breeder, how much would I have paid for this color, etc. I never respsonded and blocked her future emails. So, beware.
