Bringing a Cat Home from Afghanistan

OK, I know this might be a longshot, but who better to ask? :)

A co-worker has a friend who is serving on an Army base in Afghanistan. While it is against policy to have "pets" on base, there are numerous friendly feral cats that the soldiers have been secretly feeding. My co-worker's friend has fallen in love with one of the cats and wants to bring it home.

Any suggestions on where to start to go about doing this?

Thanks!

Maybe they can talk to the K-9 crew there on base. Where there are dogs I am sure there are veterinaries . The vets might know of a way to get the animal out of country. Are they flying commercial flights out of Afghanistan? Maybe it would just be a matter of getting the vet clearance and buying a ticket.

It's really up to the Army and his unit commander if he can bring the cat home. I would have him talk to his CO or someone in charge and ask them how/if he can bring the cat back. I am sure the cat would need shots and a carrier. Best of luck to him and I hope he gets to bring the cat home.

There is an organization that handles this. Can't think of the name of it, but there was a special on Animal Planet about it just the other day. Maybe Googling "Bringing Home Animals From Afghanistan" will help. There's a lady who actually makes trips to escort them home.

Ooops. It's called "No Dog Left Behind" and it is on the Military Channel - Discovery. They have the info on who to contact. They do both dogs and cats.
