boy and girl possible?

This may be a stupid question, but is it possible for a newf to be both girl and boy.
I know it is possible in people. The reason I am asking is Sam is getting more and more male traits. Within the last 4 months she has started humping and today she HIKED her leg to pee on a bush. When we take walks she is wanting to leave her "mark" everywhere. Sam was spay before I got her. I think she may have been around 6 months of age. This may be stupid but it really worries me. I just had to stop her from humping Panda. I don't know what to do. Or if I should do anything at all.

Hi Jeannie,
I'm not an expert by any stretch, but my Mom breeds Yorkies. She has had a couple of females do this exact behavior (even that scratching with the hind leg thing after she lifted her leg...just like the big boys do

I was told this was just a strong alpha female behavior...maybe Sam's just trying to make her status definitely known to the new girl?????

I agree with Juli, it sounds as Sam is taking on an aplha role with Panda. Especially since Panda is the new kid on the block. My female hounds that I have owned in the past always have done this. I don't think you will be able to stop the marking but you can remind Sam that your the ultimate alpha, just by going through short training exercises with her a bit more. My beagle mix used to always hump my newf Gracie I just gave a sharp No and told her it was not allowed. She caught on, of course it was difficult walking them together for the Newf was ahead marching at one speed, and the beagle busy stopping and marking every tree or bush we passed.<g>
