Bloat and water training

With all of this reading and research I've been doing, I have wondered if bloat can happen easily if your are working with your dog on water training. Gulping water....exercise.....

Do you need to stop and MAKE the dog rest?

If that WERE REALLY true every single one of my newfs including emmett and morgan who were trained in SAR would have bloated long ago./to date none of them, not one dog i have owned has bloated, and i pray it will stay that way.
no it is not necessary and i find it very hard to believe that this is true if in fact it was in a "study that concluded this"
these dogs were made to work, in water and land.

Of course if your dog takes on a lot of water you should take a rest and monitor just for basic safety sake, but it has no coorelation with bloat. All the studies that I have seen on bloat show no correlation with having been fed, or having an empty stomach etc.

The one possible common factor that was lightly mentioned in the Pudue study was depth of chest ratio to width. Narrow, deep chested dogs/breeds tend to be the ones prone to bloat, but that isn't any tried and true combination either.
