AC I achieved these by being very VERY patient. They go so fast you can't use automatic focus so you have to manually set the lens to an certain area and then wait for the bird to go to that area. I set up a foot in front of one of our feeders and caught them as they were flying to the feeder. I took around a 1000 shots and only got about 6 that were worth anything. So I would say patience is your biggest asset in trying to get any wildlife photos but even more so to get birds in flight. I also have great equipment and that helps, too.
