Ben's Progress

I am so excited about the progress that Ben is making since his hip surgery. It has only been 9 days since surgery and for the past 3 days he has been able to get himself up to standing from sitting. He is putting alot of weight on that leg and he is walking very well, of course still with a limp, but it's only been 9 days. And tonight he was so pig-headed about wanting to come into the kitchen which meant having to climb 4 stairs, so finally I moved the barriers and stood by him in case he needed my help. Well he just walked up those stairs like it was nothing. And the best part of this is that Ben has not been able to walk slowly up stairs for over a year, he has had to stand back and take a run for them, but he walked up them slow and steady. And did I mention that it's only been 9 days since surgery!!! LOL
I am starting to feel a sense of relief that maybe we did make the right decision in having the surgery. Thanks for listening everyone, I know it's a long post...but I just had to share. :D

So glad to hear that Ben is making progress. I'm sure you are so relieved. It can be such a roller coaster ride, deciding what is best for these lovable furballs. Surgery can be scary, but well worth it for long term health. From the looks of it, his quality of life has already improved! Way to go Jennifer and Ben!

Thank you everyone. Ben got his stitches out yesterday, hard to believe it has been 2 weeks already. The Vet is very happy with how he is doing. He should just continue to put more and more weight on his right side as he feels stronger. We are still keeping him on his Phenobarbitol though because we don't want to risk him having a seizure now with recovery from his surgery. We will deal with that issue once this one is resolved...never a dull moment.
