Bear's on a Hunger Strike

Okay, I had one of the best eaters around, once in the morning and once at night. I feed California Natural Lamb and Rice, dry with some canned for a treat in the evening, supplement (Nupro) added in each time, sometimes some raw beef or chicken wing drummets on top, shredded carrots - I mean he eats great. All of a sudden a couple days ago he quit eating !! He's not sick (because he is the same little trouble maker and player as he always is), no one is sneaking him anything - he just plain ole' decided he's not going to eat !! I have resorted to putting down just dry and saying he'll eat when he's hungry, but the mom in me is worried !! I stopped by the food store today and bought a small bag of Innova to try to mix in, but still not interested. They have every kind of food imaginable there and I know the food choice thing has been gone over and over, I'm just wondering if this is him just being a little butt boy or what ??!!

Now, I am no specialist with this. But we went through the same thing with Brady at about 7 months. I was beside myself worrying. Our breeder told us he will NOT starve himself. We even started to bribe him with other food. That made it worse, I decided to just put it down, if he eats great if not he will wait until supper (or breakfast). Now if he doesn't eat we pick up the dish and feed him the next normal time (not the same food

Ko went through that stage a few months ago after being a good eater. It lasted for a couple of days until I realized that he didn't require the amount of food I was feeding him at one feeding. I guess looking at that amount in his bowl just wasn't appetizing anymore. I offer 1 cup dry kibble in the AM and then 2 cups kibble mixed with 1/2 can wet food or chicken or tuna or salmon at night with veggies or fruit. Sometimes he won't eat the AM kibble. I wouldn't worry as long as Bear is healthy and there is no other underlying reason for his not eating, when he gets hungry, he'll eat, he won't starve himself

Talk about a hunger strike. Sara has been on one for 2 days now. :( With her being 11 years old I do anything to get her to eat. I finally resorted to CANNED food only. Oh well at least she is eating.
As for a youngster. I don't think I would worry too much. They will eat when they get hungry enough

We're pretty lucky... our 3 are avid eaters. Kira gets a little funny about it sometimes, but I think it's a game. She waits until everyone has eaten, then she eats. It backfired on her last night. She waited and waited.... Cora & Sailor finished their dinners, and both went out to potty. Russell came in and Kira wanted to go out.. she hadn't eaten yet... so he took her out. When they got back inside, Cora (aka Hog-a-tha) had scarfed down Kira's food. I wasn't home (working late :( )and Russell didn't give Kira any more. She ate very well this morning! LOL!

Russell feels that if they dont eat in a certain amout of time that we should removed their bowls, and that's it... no more until the next meal. I hate this... hate it hate hate it. Hoever, it seems to work. And, whoever said they won't starve is right.

Bubba went through this about a month ago too for a couple days. On the third day he ate fine, I didn't feed him anything but his regular food. We're different than most the way we feed him, I put half his food down in the morning, in his kennel before I go to work, and when I come home, he gets the other half in the house. He doesn't eat it all at once, but picks at it throughout the day. I know most say this isn't the way to do it, but he's eating what he should, and the once and a while he does scarf it all down, he does not get any more til the next feeding time, to make sure we don't overfeed. It seems to work for us.
I'm sure 'butt boy' will eat when he's hungry.
