Anyone had a Newfie with a breast tumor?

Our landseer Blossom is having surgery today to remove a small lump in her breast. I have 25 years experience as a mammographer on humans but dogs are another story. The vet says 50% are malignant. She has a clear discharge with expression and I only had one human patient with that symptom have ca and it was DCIS.
Anyone know anything about this? She is not spayed due to being shown.

Not a newfie but my other dog did... Had hers removed and spayed her at the same time (as spaying almost completes removes the chance of it recurring). Hers was malignant - they completely excised and got all margins. She has not had a reoccurance. This occured when she was 4 1/2 and she'll be turning 12 next Monday...

Hope that helps!

Thank you both for the reply,
she is at the vets now and we will get her this afternoon. I don't know how long until the path report comes back. Thats encouraging that your lived to 12. We did think about spaying her as she is now 5 and will never be bred but we are still showing her.

One of our Goldens had three very small breast tumors removed four years ago. Two were malignant one was not. She's been fine ever since. No recurrance.

Sassy our part Newf had what we thought was a small lump on her breast and we had it removed. It was not malignant, but was a fatty tumor that ended up being the size of a grapefruit. The vet said she just kept pulling fat out in handfuls!
