This would be a food I'd avoid. The 2nd ingredient is corn. That is a filler with no nutritional value for a dog. Dried beet pulp is also a filler.

If you need an Australian food that would be good for newfies look up Blackhawk..it is holistic food, has no preservatives, food coloring or wheat. And made in Australia.

It has Emu oil in it, which is good for joints and some other stuff.......Lamb and rice and I think chicken and rice/oats

Also small kibble to reduce one of the risks of bloat. It is the only kibble I will use when I am travelling.....I feed my dogs RAW, but when we travel we use Blackhawk. RAW can be too difficult and inconvenient when sort of camping :). If you need more info. PM me and I can send you all the details. Initially hard to get, but it is available from quite a few places

I can see that its best to do raw. but is it ok to feed only blackhawk, i would like to feed raw but i would have no idea where to start. plus dry food is easier.

I know a few people who feed Kibble in the morning, quick and easy and feed Raw meat and bones with some veggies in the evening. I personally cannot get my head around feeding kibble and canned only, but it is a personal choice of mine and I do not preach what i feed. I know we cannot get some of the great kibble's they have in the USA here. But I also know that there are many newfies here in Australia that are fed on kibble only. And I know some that have got to a great age....Ask your breeder is my suggestion.

When we are away from home I feed canned fish and Blackhawk....And sometimes I will stop at Supermarket or butcher and buy RAW meat for the evening meal. I never mix RAW and kibble, but again that is personal. I sometimes also travel with just Raw eggs, sardine/salmon, Blackhawk. And that will be all I feed for the week or so. Some of the places we go have no shops :) And our little fridge is only very small and we have four large dogs :) And they have always done fine.

There are so many books on RAW......and if you live in Sydney there are even places where you can buy all the add on's or event the finished patties to feed dogs. That might be very expensive. Cost is also a factor.Blackhawk is one of the most expensive dogs foods on the Australian market. The label does give amount for "feeding kibble only"
