Hey All,
Thanks for the greeting! I did not realize this place generated an "auto" announcement about my joining! So sorry to be overdue with an intro!

I am an aspiring newf owner! My husband Jon and I have been lusting to have a newfie for about 10 years now. When we first got married we shied away from such a big animal (worrying about the black hair and the heat in NC). We decided to get a golden... our first baby! Kuba was great - taught us a lot about puppy hood, bonding and caring! We adored him! Then came two cats...then kids (two boys...now 4 1/2 and 6 1/2).
About 4 months ago we lost our golden (died very unexpectedly post surgery)... :( We all totally fell apart... Had it been my way - we would have gotten another dog right then and there - the void was just terrible. Instead - my husband talked me into going very slow! We have been researching MANY breeds...almost settled on a Berner...but then came back to the Newfy! We are a bit older now - more experienced. We have finally (after a very rush rush lifestyle) matured into the thought that putting true dreams on hold is the the wrong way to live your life (duh)! The newfy has always been a dream!
Of course it helps too that the means are here - a great fenced yard, lakes nearby and flexibility of schedules.
I have read most anything I can get my hands on regarding this breed and this site too has been very educational! Falling more and more in love...even with the drool part!

Thanks again for the welcome!

Aggie, welcome to you and your potential newf family. We got Boagie the same way. We had wanted a newf for years but waited until our hound passed away. I absolutely understand what you are going through.
Take your time and find the right breeder and wait for the right time. If the lord has picked you to be honored with a newf, he will let you know when and it will be one of the best experience of your life

Hi Aggie! Welcome to Newf Net! I'm so very sorry for you and your family in regards to your beloved Kuba's "crossing the bridge". I understand how very painful this can be for all concerned. I grew up in a family that when a pet died, we'd go right out and get a new one. The one that had passed away was never ever forgotten, and we still grieved. But having a puppy/kitten seemed to help. The downside to this is that we always made an impetuous decision.. and one or two times got a puppy from a less than reputable breeder. So, I really think you have been wise to go slow.. yet, I understand how awful that void must be like.

I hope you'll like it here at Newf Net. We're a pretty neat group of people, if I do say so myself!!! There's lots of good information shared.... and always something to learn!

Welcome, Aggie! So sorry to hear about Kuba! I'm glad you have decided on a newf and you are smart to read and research as much as you have. That is what I did and it really paid off. This way you can pick the right breeder and know the right pup when you see him.

Welcome Aggie!
Very sorry to hear about the loss of your Golden. :( I have a 10 1/2 year old Golden and hope and pray he lives many more years. I am in the midst of looking for a breeder after 3 years of convincing my husband that a puppy would fit in just fine here. I thought I waited a long time...but 3 years is nothing compared to 10! If I have to wait much longer, I think I'll fall apart! ;) Good luck with your search! This board is a great place with lots of friendly folks and very adorable Newfs!

Hi, hello, and welcome.
Sorry about your Golden. Nothing can ever replace him. He will be in your heart always.
I'm glad on your final decision.
To be owned by a Newf is an experience you just can't describe. You have to experience it to believe it. They create such a special human bond I have never felt before. It has enhanced my love of aminals further than I could have ever imagined.
Not to mention all the goofy stuff that will have you rolling.
Best of luck. Nice to Cyber-ly meet you.
