Am I measuring wrong? How tall?

I don't know were to post this so I just posting it under general. I measured Busa today. We have only measured him once before. I measured him tonight at his shoulders. He was 27 inchs. He is only 7 months old. Is that tall for that age? It seems tall to me. Isn't the standard 27 to 29 inches. Is this the age where he has got most of his height all ready? I am pretty sure I am measuring right. I am measuring at his shoulders while he is standing up and not on the neck area. Am I measuring right? How tall is your dogs. Thanks.

Manna is about that height at the shoulders and she's 7 months 2 weeks.

The more I see the average Newfie the more I realize that the standards are off. Yes I realize the smaller newfies usually have less health problems but the average newfie (from newfoundland and most of canada) isn't that small. And with proper breeding the larger newfies don't have to have all those problems (I've witnessed 220 pound 15 year old healthy newfies.

I've also got two males, within about an inch of each other that vary in weight by about 40 lbs. One is much longer in the body and I think heavier in his bone structure than the other. You'd never guess there was that much of a weight difference between the two just looking at them.

Each pup grows differently, but by 7 months they will have done a fair chunk of their rapid growing. They'll still grow, but it starts to slow down a bit as the get a little older. So it might seem crazy, but in the end you'll probably end up with a dog that is a few inches taller than he is now. I think many people don't stack and measure their dogs correctly, which can alter the perception of their height. It's a bit tricky to get a proper measurement without the right tools, but it can be done. I think the site above will give you steps to get a reasonably close estimate.

I have found that mine tend to put in height first and then weight/breadth - most will hit their mature height well before 12 months, but they are not fully mature looking until at least 3. Also- is your boy neutered? without the tempering effects of growth hormones, he will get taller than he would otherwise because it takes longer for growth plates to close without hormones.
