Hi everyone!!
I have great news but it has a hitch. We have been approved for Deacon who is a rescue from the Rocky Mountain Newfoundland Rescue in Silverthorne, CO. He is definitely our forever dog - just look at that face!!

I am talking with the rescue about ways to get him home in RI with us but wondered if anyone has any ideas on what would be best for Deacon. Unfortunately, I can't take off anything more than a day or so from work to get him. Any suggestions?

Hi,

Here are my thoughts:

1. See if you can get a driving pool across the country. Difficult but I have seen other rescues do this in the past.

2. Fly out to get him, rent a car and drive home.

3. Check to see about having him flown here on the airlines. This can be difficult with the varying temperatures across the US. Can be stressful for the dog but people do it and the dogs are fine. Maybe others on the site who have done this can give you some recommendations on flying.

Keep us posted on how you make out.

Thanks, this is our first time rescuing from another state and want to know what is best for him. I worry about the flying as you had said but it does make for a much faster remedy as opposed to driving for 30 hrs and needing to stop.

I'm not in the path to take a leg but a caravan is certainly an option..
You'll likely get a wealth of responses here. Stay tuned.

Good Luck!

I've also heard of people using http://www.uship.com/ to find a transporter. You get bids from various people, can see their feedback from other, etc. There are truckers that will transport dogs in the cab portion just to pick up some more money plus have some companionship on the road.
