Unbelievable. Woman steals dog, fakes it as a service dog, and sues real owner as story goes viral all over the world. Unreal.

There is so much interest in this story, and so much commentary, that The Oregonian newspaper and online site are posting links to police reports, rulings by Animal Services and legal filings, and also publishing and soliciting sleuthing by worldwide readers.

This is not going to help those of us with legitimate service dogs!

Smart readers are seeing obvious fakery signs and pointing them out.

Outrageous story.

Northeast Portland man loses dog, finds dog; Corvallis woman won't give dog back

This is my metro area, where I take Orka in his service harness via bus and train everywhere. Already attracts way too much attention, huge bear dog; now it's going to be really difficult. Answering a billion weird questions is not an autistic's idea of a pleasant day :_(

That is such a crazy and confusing story!

The one thing that I keep coming back to is that there are so many unwanted dogs ... so so many. And all the money being spent on this dog ... well, it could help so many others. I'm not saying I wouldn't do the same thing if I was trying to get/keep Suki ... i don't know, it just makes me sad.

I'm sorry, Leska, that you have to deal with so much unwanted attention.

I have dealt with these same police, animal control, .gov officials etc. They are so corrupt and lazy it is unbelievable. I have videotapes, pictures, and witnesses to a lot of illegal stuff going on and they do not care whatsoever.

So it does not surprise me that the original legitimate dog owner cannot get his dog back, despite ample solid evidence it is his dog. What an insanely corrupt place this is.

Meanwhile I keep an eagle eye on Orka. Guard him with my life. There's an article linked in the story's commentary about vigilante groups here who steal dogs from owner's property if they think the owner is negligent in any way. Just flat out steal because they do not trust local .gov. And I know one of those vigilantes, took care of her dying mother, but did not know she was a thief vigilante. Just such a freaky place to try to live a normal life.

The dog thief and possibly service faker was arrested and charged with 1st degree theft, felony. Police seized dog; Chase may be back with Sam today. It took far too long but finally the .gov is doing the right thing. It is terrifying to think anybody can steal one's dog and get away with it.

This spoiled brat actually sent a retired police officer to the original owner to threaten, extort, bribe and intimidate him into giving up claims to his dog which she stole. Unreal.

The story made our newspaper this morning. It was described as a custody battle. I guess she lost. I hope this soon becomes old news so that you and Orka can have peace and security.

One thing I thought of this morning Leska is to take Orca in and triple check that his chip is readable and the information registered is correct.

Then wrap him in Bubble-wrap and tuck him away until this crazy chick has been dealt with...if she took my dog, we'd be dealing with a lot more than theft charges, that's for sure.

I do have the vet check Orka's chip which is still where it should be. One thing this situation has brought out in other articles is how many vigilante rescuers are out there, and how many ppl steal dogs for all kinds of reasons. I had no idea and it is scary. Ppl steal for the heck of it, for giving their friends a dog, for questionable "research" facilities, for dog fights, for thinking all animals should be "free" etc.

Most of the commentary however is firmly in the reality of calling the thief a thief. It has exposed how lazy and corrupt the authorities are here, complete with despicable trickster lawyers with dirty fired ex-cops trotting out ex-wives with a slew of false allegations smearing the original owner so he cannot get his dog back yet.

Of course one of the most alarming aspects is the misuse of the service dog laws which will only lead to tighter regulations which may not be a bad thing but will add burdens of cost to many who cannot afford it.

Story has now gone international as it gets uglier. The spoiled brat thief girl will stop at nothing. Hope all the cops lawyers PIs and "informants" spend the rest of their lives in prison.

BTW there was never a complaint about this dog's care until the thief got arrested.
