I have a nine month old female who just had surgery for a 13.5 lb ovarian tumor the docotor also found an abnormal felopian tube rapped around it and attached to the colon and bladder with its own vasculature. I luckily had a very experinced vet proform the 3 hour surgery on Friday the 18th we brought Ethie home last night she is doing well by the way. I was just wondering if anyone has heard of this anomally. I think the vet is going to right this one up for the journals...so my baby is going to get published. It was touch and go there for awhile but thanks to all the anwered prayers she made it through!
Any information on this would be helpful.
Best Regards,
Cynthia

Wow! 13.5 lb tumor!

Is this something you noticed and took her in to check out? Being so large - I would imagine so, but then again it could have all been internal. How did you figure out she had this problem?

And I almost forgot -- Welcome! Glad to hear she is recovering nicely. mj

I read the posting from Sarnewfie and I am overwhelmed by the warm response. I didn't think I had any tears left from Friday's unknown events. At least these are from joy. When we get the path report on this one I will definatly share it. Janet a note to you thanks for reminding me of this web site. Ethie sure benifited from all the prayers!
Many Blessings,
Cynthia

Cynthia, i had no idea you dropped in, it is wonderful to have you here,i am happy that all the prayers worked in her favor, and i am so happy that you are experienced as you are in the medical field, i feel that all the decisions you made were just perfect timing, cynthia did not mention this, but the doc said, had she brought her in sooner, they would have said, "there is nothing wrong with this dog" and sent her home, and than it would have been to late, she also stated that had she waited hours after the time she initially brought her in, that the growth would have exploded and they would have lost their little angel.
so.....
the timing was just to perfect, and we believe that the good lord above wants this little girl in their lives still!
*tears*
cynthia, thank you for staying in contact with me, and thank you so much for making the time to talk to me, i know how stressful this can be.
i will get the fax number for you today from my vet and email it to you.

Ok talked to cynthia last nite, had papers faxed to my vet, not the surgery clinic but her regular clinic.
the concensus is this.
that when a female goes into heat the eggs are supposed to be released at a certain point, with ethie, he thinks the egg/eggs were not released in keeping the egg there, the ovarie got infected and a huge growth grew, in the place of location of eggs still there, it grew fast, and in a short period of time, she had what looks to me, recurrances of UTI and one instance of lethargy.
i than asked him if he ever heard of what happened with the fallopian tubes and he said that is one that belongs in the journals to, he reassured me that so far he thinks this a fluke and normally the hormonal problems are seen in older dogs.
so.......
we are waiting for one more path report, and than the fax of what the emergency clinic has for information.
and with the 2 vets i use and her vets we can safely say that Ethie is a miracle.

Thanks again to all. If you were to look at Ethie today you wouldn't even know she had surgery she is acting like nothing happened and is enjoying being spoiled by the whole family. She is just a happy puppy
Thanks also for the welcome. Although, my worry is I am going to become addicted to this forum of communication with all the intesting conversation
