    Gracie

She came to me when she was 2 yrs old, full of mats and quite smelly. Vet thought her teeth were crooked from chewing on a crate. She became a true Newfie from the first day. She has been just a wonderful companion, super friendly, just loving everything and everybody. She's getting close to 12...

    Gracie just turned 10

She has slowed down a little but then again she has never been in a hurry to do anything. She came to me when she was 2 years old and the last 8 years with her have been great. She's just the sweetest, kindest girl and we love her. Dave and Gracie.

    I love Newfs but....

They just do not understand/feel cold. Gracie will not do her business in my yard. So at 15 below this morning, three trips around the block and 20 minutes later she finally dropped a deuce. Then she wants to keep on a walking, no way. She's still my girl though. Dave

    Quirks

Love to hear about any quirks your Newfies might have. Gracies newest quirk, she barks for about 1 minute before eating. Just start about 2 months ago. Star had her favorite toy she always had to take with her on road trips. Oscar always demanded a drink when I had the hose out. Dave

    Taking in a rescue questions.

Having lost my beloved Newf Meg, my other Newf Gracie is really depressed. I've been looking at a 6 month old Newf and have asked to any health clearances and would like to look at her papers. Any suggestions on how to tell if the dog came from a puppy mill?, I really do not to take in a...

    Meg's goodbeye

Megs ashes came home today. She had her favorite spot where she always slept and just hung out. Later that afternoon, I went upstairs for a little bit and when I came back downstairs Gracie was sleeping in Meg's spot just like Meg did. In the 4 yrs Gracie has been with me she has never laid down...

    Meg 11/4/11

Meg left us today while at the vet's office. She was your typical Newf, loving, loyal and one great hiking companion. I haven't starting crying yet but that will come in time. It seems Gracie, my other Newf, is aware Meg will not be coming home. I feel horrible I could not make to the vet's...

    Oscar

Oscar crossed today with the help of my vet. He came to live with me in March 1995 and was just a great companion. Before we left for the vet this afternoon he was able to clean Gracie's ears one last time and eat a Big Mac. He was quite the character, always burying bones, wrestling with the...

    Making that decision

I think it's time to put Oscar down but I just can't make that decision. He's going on 15 yrs and still mentally alert. However his hind legs are giving out, he cannot stand without help but once up he can walk. He also losing control of his body functions. He's had a really good life, spent...

    Megs home

Seems like those positive thoughts have worked again. She is somewhat better, which is great at this point. She even walked about 5 feet herself. Right now she is relaxing on her water bed, chilled by the air conditioner while listening to a Pat Metheny CD. When is cools down we start with some...

Anyone know about this stuff ? I just put my 14 yr old golden on it. He has had one hip replaced about 7 yrs ago but his other hip is really hurting. Just trying to make his time here a little more comfortable. He still loves playing with the Newfs and continues to take his ear cleaning...

    Gracie's new trick

The ladies just finished eating and I noticed Gracie pulling out Meg's fur. At first I thought she might have an upset stomach and since she couldn't get to any grass, Newf fur might do. Then I looked at Meg's coat and Gracie was actually pulling out burdock. However, Oscar is still the offical...

    Apple smuggling Newf

It's that time of year and apples are falling in my yard. Meg will not eat one outside as she prefers to sneak them into the house and eat on her blanket. Her mouth is so big she hide them pretty easy and she will wait until I leave the room to start chomping down. She usually eats the whole...
