Hmmm, would I happen to be the only person here who isn't on Facebook?
I was trying to look at Snowden's pic of his new puppy in Photos but there is only a link posted to Facebook:uhoh2:

I'm on FB but I don't have but maybe 2 friends that are on NN. I keep FB for family and non newf friends. I have noticed that many are posting photos link to FB. People who are not friends cannot see some of the photos.

I'm on FB and enjoy it immensely... keeping track of the 2 footed and 4 footed friends... it's great.. but you need to be sensible about it and be wary of who you accept as 'friend' and how much personal detail your comfortable with people seeing.

Under 'commentary' from my youngest son..as to what the assorted ..values of the assorted networking/sharing/game sites..such as-or-similar-to..I was told it would be of no help to our ways of living our lives. That said..I simply delete any of the assorted invites that have come in..over the last several years. More clearly..I am not on, cannot access facebook. ina n HB n Kesa

I suppose if I had family/friends far from here, I'd join facebook but, all family and close friends are within an hours drive. NN is enough for my needs:)

I love that things like facebook and myspace have become so popular. My little cousins are 8 and 6 and live in CA (I live in NY) so it's great to be able to pop on and see what new pictures my Aunt has posted of them so the rest of the family can see. We have family in NY, FL and CA so for us all to be able to see the little ones grow it's great! Especially since my sister-in-law is pregnat with the first grandchild on both sides of the family we all get to see the baby bump grow and soon be able to see the little one grow and not feel like we're missing out on anything.

But don't get me started with Twitter!! I think that is the most pointless thing ever! No one cares what you are doing every second of the day and if you think people do you're nuts.

Not on it either. I've already had to help friend undo a virus on their computer that came from Facebook. After the mess about privacy on Facebook could care less about being on it.

Have to go thru 50 privacy buttons and 170 filtering options to opt out which imo is ridiculous. Told my friends there aren't enough hours in the day. I do training with my dogs and work.

I enjoy it....with working two jobs, shuttling a 12 year old all over the place and brushing a Newf who is apparently blowing her puppy coat, I don't have time to cut the grass much less pick up the phone.

Yep, I enjoy it too. Never got a virus there either, but did get one on Yahoo.

It's great for "dog people" to be able to see all of the Newfs from across the country and around the world.

It's great for any interest one might have. If you're interested, there's a group (or 50) for it on FB.

I heard all kinds of rumors about viruses and bad stuff so I swore I would never ever join it, boy was I missing out. If you are smart on Facebook the excat same way you have to be smart with your email or any other part of the web such as not opening things from people you don't know and don't download things from people you don't know, it's as safe as most any other part of the web.
I have no virus protection, I don't use Internet Explorer I use Firefox and have never ever had a virus.

I have Newf friends from all over the world. I watch their puppies grow up, I watch their older dogs play, learn about their cultures etc.. There is no other way to connect with so many people with a common interest. With 400 million members the few that have problems is miniscule.
There is a reason over 400 million people belong

I can send out a photo or question and over 600 Newf friends see it at once all across the world, it's amazing

I am on facebook but have limited people on there, I think its quite dangerous actually and I much prefer forums which are moderated and fair, if used correctly I think it can be a great place to communicate but of course as with anything in life it is open to abuse and I think people can find it too easy to abuse others and forget that there are actually real people involved, hopefully facebook will eventually make the changes required to keep people safe on there.
I only have a few NN friends on there too and I do enjoy the newf sharing, its also great to keep intouch with family and friends, but can be bitter sweet....but hey ho I like variety! ;)

I'm on Facebook. Haven't had a negative experience yet, really. I keep my privacy settings set to "friends only" and I'm careful about whose friend requests I accept. So far, so good.

On the other hand, I live my life pretty much in the open when it comes to the internet - with the exception of never posting when I am not home, or where I am going to be, in advance. So it's possible I'm just jaded, and things that might hurt other folks don't hurt me.

I am on fb, as well as the bakery has a presence there as well. I have reconnected with college friends I have not seen in decades... It's pretty kool, and I love catching up with them. I had one friend contact me after 17 years. She figured I was on fb, found my page, and said "yup, that's hannah!"

For the bakery, I use the space to communicate with my customers what I am baking, any specials I might be having, and just generally use it for feedback from them too. Latest suggestion from a customer.. coconut almond brownies....

Only 11 days until quit facebook day!

http://www.quitfacebookday.com/

Its amazingly complex to delete your account, even then they will still store the data that you have uploaded already for as long as they please. Even data that is tagged for friends only will still be availiable to companies who you don't know via the API.

With the terms and conditions changing frequently I'd suspect that many people are giving out more information than they imagine they are. Those who are aware and set their security accordingly still do not know what will happen to their data in 5-10 years time. Heck, 5-10 months time!

Diaspora looks like it could be an interesting alternative, the guys behind it are really focused on privacy and allowing the user to maintain the integrity of their data.
