Kira, our 18 month old Rescue chases her tail.... when she came to us in May, she had already been diagnosed with Separation Anxiety. We're continuing to work through these issues, and have made great progress to date.

In regards to dogs chasing their tales, I've heard somewhere that that is a sign of anxiety.... Kira does this usually when she is wound up, playing.

When she does this, she just goes round and round and round... we tell her no, and divert her attention to something else... a toy usually. I'm just curious to hear what you guys think....

Thanks!

Annie

Annie,

Other than the destruction of the furniture why do you tell her to stop. Leviathan (our first Newf) used to chase her tail every now and then. She would be waling along and suddenly realize that someone had attached this fuzzy thing to her butt. She would spend a few moments trying to catch it and chew it into submission and then look around to see if anyone else had noticed her doing something so undignified. The funniest was when she did it at the top of the stairs one day. After bouncing down the stairs and ending up in a heap at the bottom she jumped up and strolled off acting like that was the usual way to go down the stairs.

Yes,
My Newman, 8 months old, is a tail chaser too. The only thing that has happened , is that he got going so fast that he ran head first into a marble-topped table. I was upset because he hit so hard and I think he a little dazed for a minute, but no lasting damage.
