Everything said above plus feeding tubes, a DeeLee (sp?) Mucous trap, lactated ringers and syringes and needles (personally, I like the butterfly with 12 inch t
ubing) to give sub q fluids if necessary

Thanks Mary! In my stockpile, except for the butterfly, which is a good suggestion! A butterfly cath is easier to use and to keep in as well.

Lou Ann orders the fresh frozen plasma and actually gives it to all of the puppies at birth. She swears by it and I am going to start giving it to my pups. It boosts their immune system.
I do have a couple of heating bags with the corn in which I use for transport to the Vet. They have really come in handy this past winter. They get really hot so you have to be careful. http://www.etsy.com/shop/WarmHugsCornBags

Lou Ann mentioned the availability of fresh frozen plasma; I would not have thought to ask our vet to make sure this was on hand - never know, but certainly better to be safe than sorry.
Not all vets have it so it is a good idea to order it directly from Dr Jean Dodds and keep it in your freezer. It stays in the freezer for up to 5 yrs, so always good to have on hand.

we used atravelling carry cot for transporting and also keeping puppies safe when we neeed to clean them and the area tey were in, was easy to put into our mpv as we put a board under it and sack barrowed it into our vets. It also helped as we could keep them warmer in it and we had a 12v heater fan blowing on them to keep them warm.

we also found Jessie kept stopping during the birth and we kept feeding her during those periods plus we gave her the lactating bitch powdered milk then as well. Her process took 10 hours so navy style coffee and chocolate were a must.

I have to admit we wouldn't do it again as we don't have the facilities but as we rescued Jessie it was something we took on.

I dont know how true it is but we were old raspberry leaf was supposed to be good to give to a pregnant bitch to help them with the birthing. I don't know how true that is but a possibility to be checked out perhaps.

Get as much sleep now and also when the pups are being weaned keep a mop bucket close by so you can enter the area without stepping in poo or pee, a good pair of wellingtoon boots was a must as by the time they scratched your legs trying to get to the food we were red raw.
Also prepare as much food between feeds as possible as when they are on two to four hour feeds its very tiring

perhaps as you are a Texan a good pair of chaps? :fce32f95:I'm just thinking that newf pups will be bigger than gsd pups perhaps.

enjoy the birth and remember lots of pictures required though we need a puppy belly warning certification for all of us envious ones.

one thing if there are any complications do you have any emergency supplies for feeding them we used the powdered lactating bitch's milk and goats milk combined but I know there are so many more things that can be used, also baby bottles and steriliser though you would need different teat sizes, though we set up our own feeding station a board with 8 bottles strapped to it as Jessie wasn't well.
