What Dog-Treats do all of you use?

There was a recent post on Newf-L about where to find cheap rawhide. We do not give rawhide to our 2 Newfs... nor do we use pig ears or cow hooves.

We genuinely let them have dog biscuits, occasionally a snausage or wagwell, maybe some of those pasta treats for dogs... and when I get really ambitious, home-made dog bisuits!!! And not to mention... their all time favorite: ICE CUBES!!!

Has anyone used green beans as a filler? Sadie was quite overweight when she came to live with us, and we were advised to add canned green beans to her kibble... no extra calories, and it would fill her up. She is quite.... um... gassy so we refrained, afraid that green beans would just make that worse. Is this the case?

Annie,
Sam, being the chow hound that she is, was on green beans for quite some time. It is a no-calorie filler and she does not tend to crave grass any more than she did before I started her on the green beans. I buy the cheap ones from Auldi's. She eats about 3/4 of a can with each meal. At first she would not eat them, but now she loves them. (Sara on the other hand will not even touch them)It is worth a try

Is rawhide bad to give to our newfies? Boomer and Malia love to chew in the evenings. I don't want to give them too much of it. If it's bad for them, I don't want to give them anymore....please advise
Thanks!

We used to give our Newfs rawhide all the time. Even bought them in 5 lb bulk packs! Until Sass came to our house!! She would chew them to a certain point, then swallow. The second time I found one caught in her throat was the end of the rawhide, except for baby pups who just chew on them. Never had a problem with any of our others, but we weren't about to take any more chances. We give them sterilized bones, instead.
