Vacuums

Newfs Forever

Is there a sticky on vacuums? Anyway, I need a machine for the upstairs. The central vac I have is a royal pain in the backside to haul upstairs.

Obviously, I need one that is somewhat impervious to the fur getting caught in the rollers.

Any suggestions, ideas?

TIA,

I personally love my new Dyson V8. The pros are it's very portable, it has 2 speeds, the suction power is really good and the new model has a very confident way to empty out the dirt. Some of the cons are that I only get 20-30 min battery until it needs a recharge, it's a little pricey and if you don't clean it often it smells like wet dog. I keep a fabric soften sheet in the dirt chamber and that really helps with the smell.

Anytime you have something that is spinning and you add fur to it the fur is going to wrap around it. So the brushes, rollers or whatever will always get dog hair wrapped around it. There is no way around it.

Jeannie is right!
I have a Sebo which is excellent and a 1999 Miele, they have bags which I gather most people don't like these days.
I also have one of those Dyson animal hand ones for doing stairs, cars, etc. It's good but I hate bag less, tipping the dirt out of the container is not my idea of fun.

Thanks, Jeannie! But, I am well aware of that as I have had newfs and berners since 1989.

But without getting too too heavyweight, I would like something that may have some attachments and also does a good job.

I'm actually just looking for my second, lightweight, (rainbow comes out once or twice a week) our Oreck just gave up the ghost a few days ago. Costco has a sale going on for the sharks, which many newf people have mentioned. Probably going to grab one tonight. I'll let you know what I think.

I bought it last night and have not vacuumed yet, one of Vin's daughter's will go at it today, I'll let you know how it works out. I bought the Shark Navigator at Costco for $120.00.

Not cheap, but I have a Miele vacuum (canister, not upright) and love it. It has lived through 2 newfs and 2 maine coon cats.

I have the upgraded power brush head. It obviously gets fur wrapped around it, but it's very easy to pull off and doesn't get in the bearings like it does on so many other brands. I've killed so many vacuums in the last 15 years. This one is going strong after 6. I do take it to get serviced/cleaned about every 18 months (about $30).

How is B doing? I miss that big guy. Hope he's doing great!

As my husband likes to joke. "Shiva killed 3 vacuums, before we figured out we needed a Shop Vac in the house" All jokes aside, I do a quick go over with the shop vac and then finsh with my Shark Navigator.

That is a really great idea. I find myself sweeping up the hair and then vacuuming to get the dust and dander. I may just try the DH's shop VAC!

Well, last night Vin vacuumed our bedroom...he was impressed. I haven't had a chance to do much since it seems lately everything is taking a crap. With the bad winds yesterday and the power spiking I had to go get another apple box last night. Getting it set up was interesting and a little time consuming. One review I read said that it was like magic, witchcraft if you will but I suppose that's if you have your smart phone up to date & watch tv on your phone, lol cause it took us some time to figure it out. Oh life these days!

It is not lightweight by any means but I have used the same old canister Electrolux since 1980. It has survived 8 Newfs and many fosters. I do NOT carry it upstairs though. I have never found anything better for picking up fur, sticks, sand and frankly, many scary things I did not choose to identify. Having said all this, it will now probably blow up on me.

Got to use it over the weekend, impressive for a little thing. The suction makes the vacuum have a mind of it's own. Certainly worth $120
