Especially for anyone struggling with their furkids here is an especially usefull tip.anyone else who has a useful idea please add as we all know our furkids are great but can be hard work at times.

My furkids feed off each other in excitement and can get very hyper fast.this can lead to exuberant jumping and attention seeking behaviour.

My tip is to not say anything, use a hand signal for a sit position and then calmly fuss them once they are sitting, then they get a treat which doesnt have to be food based.can just be an extra belly rub or a play session.

Its amazing how fast they calm down and even if they get excited in a play session you can use the same technique .

Angela, you always need one hellraiser newf in your life so you appreciate the quieter ones.

Cant say as l have ever had an easy newf yet but l like the challenging ones.

If anyone can add tips as you never know what technique will work as l have to constantly adapt .

Need a Training Tip

McGee our 2 year old male has become a speed bump/road block in different places around the house and won't get up. He joins me in the bathroom while I shower and sits right out side the shower waiting. This morning he wouldn't get up to let me out of the shower. He was laying on the bath mat and I wasn't going to step over him dripping wet. Nothing would move him. I finally pulled the mat from beneath him and squeezed to the side of him. I don't want to shut him out of the bathroom but I need a technique/tip to make him move when he isn't inclined to move. He does the same in the kitchen. He lays down and won't move...this one makes more sense as he knows that we want him on the other side of the gate. At least in the kitchen snacks are close by to entice him. I will close the bathroom door before I bring snacks into the bathroom :beatdeadhorse:

We have a "move your butt" type queue that we use with our dog. It's actually "beep beep" (thinking of the large trucks that beep when they are backing up) ... it's easy to put on queue and works for us when we need him to move out of our way, or the doors way, or whatnot.

Alternatively.. if you've already queued a "go to your bed" type command.. you can always use that too!

Not sure if that kind of thing would help when he doesn't want to be on the other side of a gate though ;)

obi doesnt really like to sit. he would rather lie down. in his training class we had to teach the dogs to go from down to sit (and down to stand). the trainer showed me how to step between obi's front paws and keep taking baby steps until he had to sit up. we used this technique to teach him "move" as well. fortunately, our shower door opens in as well as out so at least i dont get really stuck!
