Training Collars

Has anyone used the Gentle Leader collar? Someone had suggested it for Kodi and when we first tried it he wouldn't take a step. Now at 6 1/2mths, he still doesn't like it. I'm walking straight and he's totally turned around with his head facing me. By holding the leash close to the fastener under the chin he still fights me. I've always used quick release chain collars for obedience, so this Gentle Leader is a first. If anyone could give me a few tips, I'd gladly try them. Thanks for any help

We've gone as far as to buy them...I've heard great things about them. The packaging suggests that the more your dog resists them, the more they need them (I guess it mimics you being the Pack Leader???).

At any rate, we've had them around to try...I'll let you know how they work...

We used the gentle leader on Morgan when she was a puppy. After she grew out of the first one we switched over to the quick release collar. I always had to fight her to put it on. It did keep her from pulling a lot, but I never had the problem of her turning all the way around when walking. The biggest problem I had with it was getting it to fit well without being uncomfortable. Because of the shorter snout on newfs, it was difficult to get it tight enough that she couldn't push it off the front of her nose with her paw. I never tried it with Quark -- mostly because Morgan pulled it off a shelf and chewed it into pieces!
