The girls and I have a new home with all wood floors, one of my friends suggested a Roomba to keep the hair down....any feedback on the pet Roomba from you NN peeps?

I have never used one, but with my 2 girls I can't vacuum an entire room without having to empty the bin. As small as a Roomba is I think it would fill up too fast. Now if they made a bigger one..... lol

For me, nothing keeps the hair down like raking then dry blowing the coat with the k-9 III outside every day. I've always wanted the Roomba, but I too think it's just a drop in the bucket kind of fix.

Don't get one. My husband got me one for Christmas years ago. It would get stuck in the corners or against furniture even with the sensors. It didn't pick up dog hair and the dirt compartment is very small. Although I didn't have to empty it often because it didn't work. Mine went in a garage sale.

Well.. that is a difficult one.. Monty has managed to kill a Dyson, new Hoover , a dirt devil.. we are now testing a fancy new Shark... My garage looks like a cemetery for vacuums.

I LOVE my Sharp vacuum! It is over 10 years old and will still suck the carpet up from the floor! It doesn't clog and there's no counting how many hundred times it's been carried up and down the stairs.
I paid 200.00 for mine and it's outlived a two Hoovers and one Dyson. It has bags, but I buy them in bulk 50 at a time off eBay so they're not too expensive.

I really like Bissell. Not so expensive that I grieve over it, and it holds a lot, and it does a really good job. On my second one in about 10 years. Does work better if you empty the canister after every room, but with 3-5 dogs, that's not so bad. And, the girls do love their carpet. If I had hardwoods I think I'd use an electric broom. That's what we have for the kitchen and hardwood floors, and it does a great job - again Bissell.

We got a Dyson Animal before we got Cooper, so we've had it...5+ years now? It is starting to go and has been for 6 months but with 2 cats (1 longhair) and 2 Newfs I think it's done its job quite well.

I used to vacuum after the cleaning ladies (oh how I miss having cleaning ladies!) and could fill the Dyson after they left with their Electrolux. (Elux is what I grew up with and always thought it was THE vac to have...until pets!).

We can't imagine

how a Roomba would handle the daily Newf chores. One of our cousins got one when they first came out. Pretty much a weak novelty item. I don't remember seeing it for a long time since ? There is scant little that can replace elbow grease or horsepower. It is inherent to being battery operated we're thinking. We have to take the roller brush out of our mega-Dyson weekly to clean the end connection fittings. Samson's long hair gets wrapped at those points. The roller brush backbone is plastic and the motor drive connectors are metal and spin out the slotted plastic key slots if the hair binds it up. Replaced it once already. The Roomba would be better than nothing, but is doomed to a laborious existence.

In SC, I keep the girl's hair shorter and brush alot...I have a dyson Animal and it works! I was just hoping that the room a would keep the hair and dirt down in between vacuuming...sounds like The Roomba is no substitute for daily vacuuming...thanks for your replies

I love my Roomba, it is well worth the money for us! We have 1 Newf and another black girl that sheds just about as much. We got new wood floors last year and got a Roomba machine last November to help keep them clean. We love this guy sweeping up the floor every night while we sleep. No longer do I have the hair floating around the floor… I turn it on as I go to bed(quick push of a button), it runs through our great room, kitchen, laundry room and bathroom then returns to the charger and starts again on the timer about 3AM. I also start it in the morning as I head off to work. I hate to admit how much dirt, hair and dust I empty from the tray every morning, but at least it’s off the floor! Every couple days it may get stuck somewhere but we just re-start or recharge. About once a week I have to clean the brushes and wheel, but it only takes about 5 minutes. Also a must have is the added bumper so it doesn’t scratch furniture.

Wouldn’t be without Roomba or the K9III for keeping up with the girls hair and dander!

we have stone floors and have a scooba 930- so it washes and vacuumes. It works pretty well, and certainly does an ok job for a daily/2-day clean up of the kitchen and lounge areas

I want a roomba, even though it seems more people don't like them than do. I really dislike dirty floors and I dislike sweeping … I obviously want to have my cake and eat it too! lol.

I think we should all write a letter to the vacuum manufacturers and offer to be testing facilities for their newest and toughest vacuum cleaners! I've even got a slogan: "Is your vacuum Newf-proof?" :D

YES. Especially that self-righteous Dyson guy. "Easy one handed emptying" my butt. I swear every time that commercial comes on I yell at the tv.

Had the same Dyson for 7+ years, works like a champ, NEVER a problem (must have been made on Wednesday).
