Tips for Newf moving/relocation! HELP!

Sadly, Loki, Daisy and I need to leave our current living situation. We have a kennel, a pool, and a fenced in yard where we are. I am looking for a place with a yard and a sun porch...financially the pool will be out.

Any suggestions for helping the girls readjust to a new home???

I will be taking their bowls and beds etc...and be able to spend as much time with them as in the past...they will be losing some time with my husband and the pool...but that's about it.

I guess that keeping as much of the routine for them is key and allowing them out to mark and sniff/explore their new surrounfding will be helpful, but any tips would be greatly appreciated!!!!

You all always give me the best info!

When we moved last year, Elvis' cage was the very first thing in the new house. We brought him in and turned him loose, letting him go everywhere and sniff anywhere he wanted. I followed him around while my husband set up his cage. After a walk through, Elvis got in his cage and took a long nap while the rest of the truck was unloaded.

He was scared of our kitchen for a few days, and there's a thread on here somewhere from when I asked for help. Turns out all we had to do was actually cook and he came right in!

Just don't make it into a big deal. Take their stuff, put some toys around the house, get their beds ready, feed them well, take them out for a walk and that's the first day :).

My dogs were pretty unfazed by it. They were with us the whole time, even lived with us in a hotel for a week when closing was delayed. I think that being with us was the key to prevent them from getting too stressed out.

I moved cross country 2 yrs ago. The dogs adjust better than you do. Trust me. While packing and moving out things, I suggest putting the dogs in your vehicle. It was the best thing I did for Bojie. Moving large pieces of furniture out of the house made him a little anxious I noticed. The final moving day, I had him in the car with his bed and his toys and a raw bone. Those were the first things I unpacked in my new home, along with his water bowls. I showed him where the water was, let him sniff the yard, took him for a walk and he adjusted in a matter of minutes. For them, all that matter is that YOU are with them...for us it's a totally different story;)

I moved with my Newfs several times before I was married. I never found they had any issues, whether it was an upgrade or downgrade of their accommodations I guess when I made the last move to where I am now, my old gal refused to go in the house at first, but got over that after a few minutes.

My Newfs seemed to look at it all as an adventure, something new to sniff! So I would say, don't worry.

Sounds like you are divorcing ... Sorry, that must be hard. Hope your new life is a relief and a fresh start. Hey ... At least you got custody of the dogs.

Have not moved with a Newf but our lab mix has moved from TX to WA to KY to AZ to TX and soon back to WA. Other than making sure to not wash his bed just before the move we have not done anything special. Somehow i think making a big deal about it stresses them the most.

I always move the dogs first to the new place and set them up in their crates. I agree with Meg, that they get anxious and upset when they see everything they know getting moved out and they might think they are getting left behind.

I moved from Goose Creek back to Maine many years ago. I had brought the dogs home to Maine every summer for maybe a month, so they were familiar with my parent's house. I found that as long as they were with me there was never a problem. Everyone settled in just fine and actually thrived in the cooler weather of Maine.

Good luck, and you all will be fine!

from Maine, lived in Goose Creek SC for 7 years and got first and second newfs there, then back to my home in Maine where I still live with a newf
