It's a very cute picture & probably a very nice book. The author's knowledge of geography is lacking. Newfoundland is, indeed, an island, but Labrador is very solidly anchored to the rest of Canada. The Newfoundland dog developed in Newfoundland. And the tides in Newfoundland are nothing out of the ordinary; the highest tides in the world are in Nova Scotia, along the Bay of Fundy only. A shame to have such inaccuracies in a book.

I have to agree with Marlis, the photo is soooo cute, but the misinformation about newfoundland/Labrador are correct. Labrador is firmly attached to Canada's mainland Newfoundland is the Island portion of the provence. Also the highest tides are from the Bay of Fundy, New Brunswick, not Newfoundland. I haven't had the pleasure of reading the book, but I'm sure it covers the subject of Newfs very well. I am disappointed in the mistakes about the dog's origin, however, after all I'm a Newfoundlander as well.

The information on the Newfoundland was a quote from a book published in 1852. I guess their geography wasn't so great back then!

If this is a passage from the book, which is a quote from an 1800's book- then clearly I mistook it as misinfo, by the author, about Nfld. That being the case, I do apologize for that. And, as I said, I'm sure the book itsekf is delightful and I do wish her the best of luck with it.
I thank you, Susan, for correcting that mistake.
