Nope, no problems at all viewing the infopop home page
(which would be where the link takes you to). Actually that is a good thing as I really should be heading to bed and I'm sure that I would stay up far too late reading and checking things out.

Greg had the same problem.

If the link above doesn't work, try The Main Page. You will need to have Macromedia Flash (free for download) and a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 or else it will all look like crap.

Just checked out your new website, love it. I loved the story about the bald chickens. Hard to believe that a dog of that size can actually play with chickens and not hurt them...only a Newfie.

Wow! Thanks for all the wonderful feedback! I tried very hard to make it as compatible for your computers without sacrificing the pizazz of my design. Send me some Newfy stories, I will post them right away so visitors can enjoy them, too. My new email addy is in my profile; I dumped my AOL one like a bad date. And Nani looks at you all as if she's saying, "Well of course I'm cute!
) *laugh*

Jeannie, it wasn't me I swear! LOL Actually, the address I registered was Newfieland dot ORG (not COM). The dot com's are commonly used for business sites but the personal site addies most people use are org, net, nu, etc.

I did a domain lookup and this is the person who registered Newfieland.com:

LORIE SMITH (template COCO-319085)
LORIESMITH@HOME.COM
424 EAST DIVISION LANE
TACOMA, WA 98404 US

Disclaimer: I'm not infringing on her rights by posting up her information since it is of public record and available for anyone who cares to look it up.

But it doesn't give you the right to mail her your jockey shorts, either.

The site doesn't appear to be online, either. Domain registration only lasts about 6 months and if it remains inactive, it'll be up for grabs again. Now the trick would be to find out WHEN she registered it so you'll know how much time you have before snapping it up for yourself if you'd like.

Thanks again for the kind words, guys. Please let me know if there's anything you'd like me to add/change. I'm all ears!

Just to but my computer know-it-all, Cozy-like big nose into things,

Domain registration lasts for as long as they've paid for it, which can now be up to ten years in advance.

The whois database, where this info is stored, used to show registration dates, and upcoming renewal dates, and would also show if a domain was suspended for lack of payment, but they changed it all around a few years ago because people where taking advantage of it.

It's a shame too - the original UNIX whois command returned a boatload of really useful information. It's been severly lobotomized though.

As for someone listing their home address in their whois contact, that's just bad security practice, Jocky shorts or briefs!

Question: (in case I ever decide to create a website...not likely) but--is .org meant for organizations,(ie Red Cross, etc)? I am just curious as to why the .org, not .com or .net. And what does .net mean?

Of course, Gad is correct. My mistake. I was trying to say "reserve" a domain name, not "register". You may reserve a domain name for free but THAT only lasts six months. I apologize. Too little sleep.

There is no distinction between .COM, .NET, .NU and .ORG addresses anymore. The distinction between COM (commercial entities), NET (network providers), and ORG (organizations) went away several years ago. You can pretty much register whatever you want out of those for personal use.

I've read there are currently 252 domain suffixes but those are the only few designated for the general public worldwide. The other suffixes like dot EDU ( educational institutions), dot GOV (u.s. government) and dot MIL (military) are strictly for their individual purposes.

Ok. Did I answer the question or did I leave you more confused? I have a talent for doing that sometimes...

The way it's supposed to work is:

.com - Commercial
.net - ISPs
.org - Non-profit organizations
.edu - 4-year degree schools
.mil - Military
.gov - Government

The truth of the matter is, they only really check for .edu, .mil and .gov. The otheres became a free-for-all (Hell I've got gad.net and newf.net!).

There are also .us for the USA and one for each country out there. That's how .cc came into play.

I may be wrong on this one, but I don't think you can reserve domains anymore. I think you have to buy up front now. Too many people where reserving boatloads of names without paying, then when they expired just reserving them again, all the while trying to sell them. I think they did away with that ability, but I'm up too late studying and could be confused.

Anyway .com became the Internet buzzword, and everyone had to have a .com address. gad.com would have been cool, but I don't make any money off my site so who cares, and you all found newf.net just fine.

I used to be a real stickler for it when I worked at the ISP, but when I saw what was going on with people selling domains, I realized no one else really cared.

They've discontinued the "reserve" service? Good! There were several domain names I would've liked to have (mind you, this was 4 years ago) for my previous website and they were all taken. Not "paid for" just..."taken".

Once enough people find out about Newf Net, Gad, DOT NET will become just as popular! Personally, I'd love to see a Dot NEWF...

When I got my domain name I had to pay for it right then and there. it is for one year, so I have to pay again this August for it. I guess I just lucked out.
