So at what temp do you all take/let your dogs in the water? I know we are still in winters grip (at least here in Ohio) but it is suspose to hit 60 this weekend....just curious

:D

You need to get a newf.

Once you do you will realize that you don't "let" them get in the water. At best you can chase them out when you (not they) think that it is too cold.

Sounds like me! I was cleaning the other day and found pictures of my hiking trip at Pictured Rocks National Lake Shore (the Lake Superior/upper penn of MI coast line). We wentin October, and we went swimming. Lake Superior is COLD in October. I bet a newf would have loved it. I did.

The reason I asked was because there is a pond on campus (called Mirror Lake) which is basically a place where students take their dogs to swim and chase ducks. Every year it is drained and refilled. Well, they just refilled it, and I saw a lab swimming the other day. I was just wondering if there was a temp where you all worried about the dogs (as opposed to it being to cold for you...)

My previous dog went to swim into an icy lake (she was just to fast for me to stop her - and I never even imagined she would want to do anything like this). She was O.K. and she was not a newf (long hair but not so thick).

Misha on the other hand stops going in the water when the temeratures are on the freezing level.

Its going to warm up here this weekend too, high 50's.. Murphy has played on the beach plenty, even walked in the water up to his tummy.. but this is the big weekend for us.. we are taking him to the ocean on the gentle side of the island and let him go in :D and play. I will bring a long peice of clothline to tie to his collar, just in case, I have to tow him back in :D .. bringing the camera too..

We decided that since today was so nice out, we were going to see if Murphy wanted to have a try at swimming ( hubby was willing to jump in if needed )
we brought 2 water bumpers with us. Threw one that we knew Murphy could walk out to, he loved it, and would bring it right back to shore and drop it. We did that a few times, then decided to toss it out where his feet would just make him (Maybe) have to swim a stroke or two... NO DICE.. we watched the water bumper drift away  But it was a great day to walk the beach :D
