Shampoo recommendation

Can anyone recommend a good shampoo for my Newf, Gabe, that will enhance his black coat? I know there are a lot of them out there but I am thinking maybe someone has a favorite. Gabe's coat is very beautiful and shiny but I noticed in some areas on his chest & front legs he looks a little faded...kind of grayish. Also, is it normal that his "feathers" on his legs turn kind of a brownish tint at certain times of the year? He is my first Newf so I'm not sure. I think he's just shedding and it's his older coat but just want to run it by all of you. Thanks for your help!

I just pruchased Chris Christensen's Black on Black but have yet to try it. I hear none of them do much!

You can also get coat conditioning sprays with sunscreen in them to stave off the dreaded reddish-brown sunburned coat. I kind of like my two with a touch of redhead on them - that way everyone can tell we're related...:!rolling:

But if you're looking for some good sunscreen conditioners, mink oil works really well, and chris christensen's ice on ice is good in small doses.

On an unrelated note, has anyone tried Show Off by christensen? Does it work well to get the white clean? It'd be huge to have a rinseless shampoo in the winter that actually WORKS.

We use Show Off for feet cleaning at shows, of course the rest of the dog is already clean. We had to take them to Girl Scout camp last October. They were a bit muddy and dirty because of the rain we had the day before-no time to bathe them. I cleaned them in the van on the way over with Show Off (it was about a 45 minute drive). It really did remove the dirt and I guess that's the point-but it left their coats almost greasy feeling. I sprayed it into a towel and then wiped them down. I'd try the small bottle first to see if you like it.

I have no suggestions for the black shampoo, Eloise has the same grey/red highlights right now. I've tried the Black on Black and felt like it just made my bathtub and hands black and didn't do much for her. lol I think the best thing for her hair has been the Inflight Coat Formula that Newf York sells. I stopped using it a while back due to pure laziness since I have some in my freezer, but I was thinking of trying that again. Her coat used to be much nicer when I used that.

I just had to post to laugh at Nessa though with her redhead comment! lol

I use it at shows for cleaning feet and anything else that needs a quick touch up. I've used it at home too for a quick touch up. I keep a bottle of Pure Paws No Rinse Shampoo around at home for bigger jobs if needed and I do like it - http://www.purepaws.net/productnorinse07.htm

I like the EZ-Groom Crystal Black shampoo for black coat enhancing. Chris Christensen Black on Black is a harsh shampoo cause it does contain dye so keep the coat conditioned if continue to use it. I haven't tried it but heard recently of Isle of Dogs Black Coat shampoo being good. Heard from some pyr showers who also like the white coat version from Isle of Dogs. Isle of Dogs is an expensive product.

I use White on White for my Landseer, but I literally have a purple dog for about 20 minutes as I slather it on, then let it sit. For touch ups at the shows I use Cowboy Magic (learned from my horse showing days) It takes everything off the white like pee stains or even grass stains. It is called the shower in a bottle and it is not necessary to rinse it off afterwards.
