Senior Newfs

I've searched this forum up and down and I can't find the posts regarding the title they call newfs who live past 10. I could have sworn that I recently read something about it. Hopefully someone can lead me in the right direction.

They have Living Legends at the National each year. One of the owners has to belong to the NCA. You submit your information, a photo and a statement from your vet that the dog is still alive and the age and there is a designated person to send all this to. Then at the National they read out all the names, those who bring their Newfs to the ceremony are given a medallion and a booklet of all the dogs submitted.
We did this for Gracie the year she was 14. We didn't go that year but someone sent us the medallion and booklet afterwards.

Other than that I don't think the NCA or AKC recognise age in Newfs.

Thanks for the information. My son's newf is 12 1/2 and I wanted to do something for them that was memorable.

Depending on where you live - I am in New England - my local club offers recognition when your Newf reaches 10. My club is Newfoundland Club of New England. Not sure if the other regional clubs in the US do this or not.

When your Newf reaches 14 years you can nominate him/her for the Oldest Living Newfoundland award. All nominees get a certificate at the NCA National.

Yes, Newf club of New England gives you a very nice certificate. You can probably find the form to submit your Newf's name on the website, if you're in New England. Not sure if you have to be a member or not. Our Gracie lived to be 12 and half and I have her certif. in her scrapbook.
