Has anyone seen this childrens book? I bought it last week end. What beautiful book! Pictures are great and it has the cutest book marker that is, of course, a Newf. There sure are a lot of new (atleast new to me) books out there on Seaman. Have gotten several but this is just so cool!

Has anyone thought of taking their Newf to a school and reading (or having a teacher read prior to your arrival) about Seaman and letting the children see what Lewis and Clark's companion really looked like? What a neat history lesson...

That IS a wonderful book! The illustrations are breathtaking! I have taken Gracie for show and tell to my sons school many times, and I talk about Lewis and Clark, he recently had a teacher that taught about L&C, he told her we had a newfie, but I didn't hear a word. Ahh Well!

I am a teacher and do take Bear to school on a regular basis. And yes, I have read that book with the kids and got great reactions. Did you know however that there is more than one Seaman book? It's like a collection of Seaman's travels. I can't wait to buy the others!

I have this book and it's awesome. I just saw shirts for sale at Newf Emporium with one of the pictures from the book!

I took it with me when I visited 2 libraries in KY last summer with Cora. We had been invited to come down and talk about Newfs during their Lewis & Clark programs.

Moving to Reading Room Forum! ;)

I have not read Seaman's journal but I have read The Captains Dog: My Journey with the Lewis and Clark Tribe, by Roland Smith. It is about the Lewis and Clarks expedition and is retold through the eyes of Seaman the dog. Very well written. My oldest son read the book last year in the 7th grade and then had written a book report on it. After he read his report to the class, he was able to bring Baker in when they sat down to have a discussion about the travels of Lewis & Clark. We had just gotten Baker, so he was only about 10 weeks old but the kids still were smitten by him. Yesterday I had walked up to the middle school to walk home with the kids and Baker came along for the walk. Many of the kids that saw him at school back in May, saw him yesterday and couldn't believe how large he was now. They also couldn't believe that he was only 11 months old. It brought a smile to many kids faces and also to the principal, who got down with Baker a was slobbered upon.
