Sarnewfie: Glu/chondroitin?

I know you've posted before that you give both supplements to your dogs. We just got a Golden Retriever rescue who is 8 and a little slow in the rear. We'd like to make him as comfy/healthy as possible. He's currently 80lbs and could stand to lose about 10 more. How much would you suggest giving him?

Also, as a nurse I've seen humans take it and not get any benefit, but you mentioned that when you took the stuff from Springtime yourself it helped? My Mom-in-law wants to know how much you take, and which supplements exactly?

Thanks so much

Be glad to help you out.
ok for myself.
i take the GL 900 capsules, i usually take as needed type thing.
but my days of grooming big dogs on the cement floor on my knees is taking its toll, at the time 10 years ago, i had no idea that would be bad for my feet and knees, well now at 38 years i am feeling it.
so i take usually if they bother me, 2 to 3 capsules a day for about a 5 days stretch than i go off, i would probably be better off if i took 1 capsule once a day.
tell your mom to try that, and ask the people at the company what they recommend for starting out for her, as we all differ in our "problems"

second.
i give the JFlex in the morning feeding, 1/4 teaspoon. Also the Vit E 400 IU 2 in the morning. and of course all of these with the escorbate work together.
than in the afternoon they get the GL 1/2 teaspoon and 1-Vit E 400 IU and the escorbate.
good luck.
i swear by the GL for myself.
it really is relief for me.
and i also see it in my dogs. my Vet is a big believer in these products also.

Sar, do you take the chondroiton too? Give it to the dogs? My 1500 pills are both gl and ch. I break them in half and give 750 a day now.

What does escorbate do, and is your E in a clear gell capsule? I poke the gell with a sharp knife to let the E out before it leaves their tummy.

Mollysmom, the GL 900 is the capsule i take for myself, that is it.
I prefer to give my stuff in powder form rather than pill form to my dogs, this stuff is pure.
the pill stuff, i dont know how manufactured or cooked or processed out the good stuff gets.
as far as the excorbate, i get mine from Solid Gold dog food company, instead of Vit C wich gives my emmett heartburn, i changed over to the escorbate wich is much better for his tummy.
the capsules, nope dont pierce them, dont feel the need for it.
i have been giving them this way for many many years.
for 4 newfs i am not going to sit and try to pierce their individual pill.
LOL

Thanks SAR, I didn't think about using powder. Sounds like a good idea. I have huge bottles of each for now, so it will be a while before I switch over.

About the glu/chon, you don't give it to the dogs? Thank you for the help. Linda

Ok Sarnewfie, I've got another question for you on this thread.. I was just given a cataglog from a friend to look through that has JFlex listed for horses and a similar but pill form for dogs called fresh factors. In looking at the two they seemed alot alike, and I was wondering why the difference for different animals if the jflex wouldnt be good or as good for the dogs? or what.. the catalog is from All Natural Springtime products. their website is www.springtimeinc.com is this where you get your stuff?

Thanks sarnewfie. I've been working nights and hadn't had time to check in. If I have any other questions I'll be sure to ask.

Thanks again

Per Sarnewfie's recommendation, I started using the Springtime products for my 9 1/2 yr old. I bought the Fresh Factors and have seen a huge improvement in a few weeks. I did it this way, since I already use a glu/chond/vit C complex and add a separate vit E. The vit E I found in capsule form. So I just pull open the capsule and empty the powder into the food. I just found this regimen worked a little easier for my situation. All the Springtime products looked great, so I don't think you can go wrong. Thanks, Sarnewfie. Also, Sarnewfie, do you give these supplements to your pups? How much and what age do you start?

Hi Lynne
yes my pups go on this at 4 months of age all the way thru lifetime.
they get half the adult dose until 6 to 7 months or 60-70 pounds.

glad you like the products and glad to hear your oldster is doing well on them! like i say, it is never a given, individual dogs react and utilize differently just as us humans do what goes for one may not go for another you just dont know until you try.

Sarnewfie -
I'm a little confused...I checked the springtime website. They have listed
JFlex concentrate and J flex powder and springtime GL. Which do you use? Thanks for the help.

I was getting the info to order some of the J-Flex and the GL, I know Jake isn't quite old enough yet but he will be soon, my question is when I was looking at the info on the two it says they are somewhat alike as far as what they do, am I reading this incorrectly or missing something. I guess I just want to know why use both when you can use just one. Please educate me

Thanks

they "say" it is ok to use just one.
in my studies, the Glucosamine and Chondriton work togehter, thus i feed the Jflex in the A.M. and the GL in the P.M.
they get both.
some breeders, i believe kaylar, just uses the Jflex.
but i feel mine get the most out of using both.
