Rocky 1/07-5/17

Some of you may recall that Rocky was diagnosed with lymphoma last July and was treated with chemo and went into complete remission. :) Unfortunately, about a month ago the cancer reared it's ugly head and we decided to treat with steroids only after careful consideration with quality of life being the most important thing. To have a dog in hospice care (prognosis 2-4 mths) is bittersweet. Rocky didn't know his time was almost up so was his usual goofy and lovable self. But for us the knowing could be so damn sad at times but ultimately it really made us focus on making every day left with him count. We didn't get the expected 2-4 months but we are so thankful for the 1 month we had with him. Lots of trips to the river, pizza crust (his favorite!) , marrow bones and extra cuddles. He was our first Newf and was amazing and magical. Rocky brought so so many smiles to the people he met in his lifetime. I have never been loved by a dog so fiercely and have never felt so connected to a dog till him. I was his person and I will be forever grateful for that. I promised him no suffering and as hard as it was I held him while we said good bye. Till we meet again my buddy....

Sorry for your loss. There is always that one that is extra special and becomes part of our soul. Glad you got to spend one final month with him.
