How do you capture in words a Newfy you’ve lost? I guess you can’t, but I’m going to try. A few snapshots anyway.
The first word that comes to mind when describing Thea is sweet. She was the sweetest thing in the world and loved “her” people unconditionally. While reserved with adults, she loved children, and if we took her swimming and there were children in the water... She would either try to sneak over to guard them, or simply plow into the water and station herself between the child and the deeper portions of the water.
She loved her water bowl too. It was the first thing she wanted in the morning and would run over to it to remind you it needed filling and then dance around you in eager anticipation. Then she would bury her nose in the far corner of the bowl to drink, thoughtfully visiting her nearest human to greet afterwards, thrusting her dripping wet head into your lap. The other Newfies hated following her at the water bowl and would always look sadly from the slime-ridden bowl to us and back again and wait until one us refilled the water bowl. Ice cubes were a special favorite of Thea’s since a puppy. She went from playing with them across the floor to chomping on them and ice became an obsession of hers. The sound of the ice machine was one of the few things that would make her move faster than an amble.
She was also ornery and clever. She found, and exploited a weak point in our fence. She would jump up, push the fence over until the other Newf girls had clambered out, and then follow them. They gate crashed a neighbor’s picnic once. Fortunately, our neighbor still thinks it’s hilarious that three “bears” came to visit; their guests looked shell-shocked at the sudden additions.
Thea was not a Newfy that appreciated hugs but she would lean when she wanted attention. And lean hard. At 142 lbs. you always had to brace yourself. If you were sitting on the floor in a spot she wanted, she would very innocently lie next to you and then, somehow, you were no longer in that spot and she was. If you did something she did not like while petting her, she would bop you in the nose with her own nose.
What else? There is so much more. So much more to the hole that she left in the household. So much more to the emptiness that’s there when we look at the other Newfies and she’s not among them. Words will never be enough to express what she meant to us, how much we loved her, and how much she is missed.

There are just no words that can't heal the wound in your heart from the loss of your girl. She was love and gave love...she will always be missed. I am just so very sorry for your loss.

I love the fourth picture, she looks like a special HEART dog. I am sure the hole left behind is huge. I am sorry.
