raw food vs kibble

OK here is my first newbie dilemma. I don't think I agonized this much over the birth of my kids :) My breeder says by the time the pup is ready to go he will be on "adult kibble" Are there basically 3 schools of thought, kibble, raw and a mix of both? Any advise I get is always conflicting. Is it mostly a personal decision, are there some good studies I can read? If I throw him a raw piece of chicken do dogs not get salmonella? I have been so humbled by this dog and he's not even here yet! I would greatly appreciate any thoughts, opinions etc.

Thank you GAD. I have spent a good deal of the day researching diet. I'm beginning to see that it is one of those religion/politics type of topics. Lots of opinions but a personal decision. Thanks again. I have so enjoyed having this forum as a reference.
