We're in intermediate training right now, and my boy has already aced everything and learned some advanced skills, so me and my trainer spend our time practicing what he'll need to know to get his CGC and parading around the "store mascot" as he's come to be known...

Last training session we learned, "take it", but I have only done it with toys. Today I thought I'd be funny and tell Moose "take it" and passed him a sock. Wasn't I in for a surprise when he grabbed it and carried it for me, and dropped it next to my boots so I could put it on! Who cares if it was a bit moist, he did a great job and was so proud of himself! He's never carried any non-toy item for me before, let alone taken something on cue that wasn't a toy or food.

I'm continually amazed by this breed and their capacity to learn and forgive our mistakes. Now if only I could teach him to go up and down the stairs ;)

Yeah, Jake WON'T master "leave it". It is impossible to get something from him if he doesn't want to let it go. No treat of any kind helps. Good job Moose!!

Great job! Now come show Morgan what she's doing wrong...:)
I think we just got lucky and he was just too proud of himself...but hopefully it's a sign that he's willing to please and will transition from "take it" to carrying things for me soon. Groceries, here we come!

Oh Jake, what a silly bear. At least with the snow, he's not able to rip up your grass hopefully! Moose will drop it and leave it with most anything - I can even get him to "wait" and balance food on his paws....

Our trouble is stairs (horrifying, won't go near them!) and with a go command. He seems to think "go" means "come and sit on or as close as possible to you".

A long time ago I took Elvis to go get the mail. In our old neighborhood we had a bank of mail boxes out at the entrance to our development that was about 3 blocks away from our house. One day I handed Elvis a piece of junk mail to see what he'd do, and he carried it all the way back home. Ever since then he's appointed himself as Junk Mail Carrier and will bring it all the way in the house........and then shred it to pieces in the living room.

He even shreds it for you? What service!

Yes.......but the other day he found our water bill on my husband's desk and shredded that too. He didn't realize that even if he ruins it, we still have to pay it!
Hahaha hope you didn't need the actual bill. Oh Elvis, he's such a funny guy. Love the new avatar!

HE DID IT AGAIN! I passed him one sock, he carried it with me to the dirty laundry bin to put it away. Then we came back for the other sock. So then I thought I'd try something different and handed him the closest thing - a pair of my husbands boxers. He carried those and put them away too!! He's earning his keep! Now he's running around the house scouring for more things to pick up and carry. What can I say, he's figured out that he loves having a job to do.

Good boy! Are you planning on water training when the weather warms up?

I wish! don't think there's any local water training in Utah (not that I've heard of anyway). We're therapy training right now...but water would be good for him because of his back. I'm sure we'll spend many days up at the lake retrieving for fun. I didn't even teach him to go get his bumper, he just figured it out!
