Pebble eating puppy....

I have this newf pup, age 4 months who is an avid pebble eater. He doesn't mess with bigger rocks just grabs tiny pieces of pebbles out of the driveway, on beach, etc. He passes them in his poo but I am worried about this and possible impaction. He has about as perfect a diet as any animal can get, good weight, very active. I have started keeping him on lead most of the time when outside so I can catch and correct but he still manages to grab a few during the day. Any suggestions? Thanks...

No advice from here...Max eats dirt (along with a few small pebbles) and wood. We've never been able to break him of it, we just watch very carefully for symptoms of blockage or tummy upset.
