Googled it -- never been there -- is it on the east side of the Cascades?

We just scouted out a scooterjoring trail just about that distance from the east side of Mt Hood -- the old Barlow Road Trail -- and it was dry dry dry and dead, so many dying and dead trees, really tragic. Extreme fire danger.

My concern is heat and dryness and dust in summer. Just could not believe the difference as we wound around 35 -- like another planet. In October!

I vowed we would not set foot on the east side of the Cascades unless it was covered in snow. I don't think it would even be safe under snow on the Old Barlow Trail -- too many tall dead trees about to collapse.

I would LOVE to go to any PacNW get-together, just am very careful about the environment it's in. Need shade and coolness for Orka.

Pix of Leavenworth are lovely.

We're tentatively interested. I love Leavenworth, it's beautiful! It's hard to know what life will be like with the twins at that point but it sounds like fun. We can't make it the weekend of July 13th and before September would be best for me as I'll be starting back at school in the fall. Good suggestion!

It looks like the last week in September won out. As luck would have it, that last weekend will be Octoberfest next year. Leavenworth is a VERY popular town and will be even more so for the Octoberfest. Book your rooms now if you can. If you prefer to camp, which is what we'll be doing, we picked this campground which is right on the Wenatchee Lake. http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=htt...QEkWsCPAQHfNeXloGAdnwKev2S72jK8hIRcDDnvBLk2Vw
They will start taking reservations for next September starting December 1st. I'll post an update the day before to remind everyone. This campground also has full showers and restrooms.

Sounds awesome! We'll book once I have a bed that stays in the same location for two days in a row :)

So Teri, can you give me the exact dates you plan to have it? I want to get a campground reservation in before they are all booked up. Thanks!

Sharon, It's the last week in September. We'll be there from Saturday afternoon, September 22nd thru Sunday September 30th. The last weekend is Leavenworth's Octoberfest. They won't let you make reservations farther than 9 months out....to the day. So we'll be checking every morning until we can get it set up.

Lynn just scheduled Sept 27 + 28 (+29 +30) off so we can have fun with y'all. Lovely lake, looking forward to water rescue training with other Newfies.

Spent a couple hours googling ooooogling hotels, B&Bs, lodges, cabins, campgrounds, etc, emailed a retreat that looks optimal, looking for simple lodging with lots of acreage to get Orka's zoomies out before joining daily. Retreat has 530 acres :)

We'll bring 2 kayaks. Can't fit the cart or wagon in the Jeep with the gear; too bad because parading during Ocktoberfest could be a hoot.

Will bring 2 sets of joring gear so any of you can try it.

Any of you are welcome to try our Newf kayak -- the platform is big enough for a giant Newf. (photo credit Leah Nash)

Thanks for posting Leska. There will be so much to do. It is very nice of you to bring your extra kayak for others to try out. And just a heads up.......When we went to Estes Park in 2010, it took a L...O...N...G... time to walk the streets of town. EVERYONE wants to pet your Newf and ask tons of questions!!! I'll see if I can line up a photographer to take pictures. ( Hello, Wayne? ) This town would be the perfect backdrop for your next years Christmas Card.......:D

I was there back in the 90s. We were visiting some friends in Ellensburg, WA who use to live here. About the same time Snuffles moved here, they got a brown Newf pup. So I wonder if they would be willing to drive there. I don't think it is that far from them. If you get something set up, I will try to pass on the information.

Edited to say I didn't know how old this thread was. I will have to pass it along.

Yes Leonard, please tell your friends. We have 10 confirmed families coming, and I'm sure more will be making their reservations in the next few weeks.
