On Talking Terms with Dogs: Calming Signals by Turid Rugaas

I don't know if this book has been discussed on NN yet but I found it to be really informative and immediately identified the "signals" in my 3 dogs. It is a fairly quick and easy read. Excellent resource for any dog lover but particularly if you have a multi-dog household and any monkeydoodles like my Penny.

Yes, I read it too. I have a mixed breed who can be a mental mess at times. She mentioned lip-licking as an unsure, nervous behavior. That's my mixed breed. Didn't she mention sneezing too? He does that too.

She is awesome....and because of her and jan Fennell I was able to have my tow bitches who hated one another live together...Annabelle tried to kill Tessa in the early days and if not for calming signals and being able to read my dogs and the jan Fennell management of the pack, I would not have all of my dogs living happily under one roof.....Sometimes i can still read the sigs, between the two, but knowing and having katy, the perfect peacemaker and in charge bitch, which we have allowed.there is peace.
I passed a CD sit/stay once thank you to a calming signal which i gave to Annabelle, whilst an outside dog had come into the ring and started to lick and sniff her...she looked at me and i quietly lip-licked and yawned....phewwwwww. If the steward had intervened, she might not have been so calm. but they said they saw her calm reaction and did not interfere..Little did they know LOL
