This is obi towing me. There were a lot of dogs and people at the beach today but I think obi did well.

This one is a swim with handler. First time he hasn't tried to climb on me and the first time without scratches! We used his favourite bumper to encourage him to swim and kept the swimming distance short. He was more comfortable in the water this time. It helped that the lake was calm today.

We also worked on the underwater take it. He had one really good one where the water was up to his belly almost. The sand added to the challenge because in shallower water obi likes to paw the sinker closer to shore and sometimes the sand covers the sinker or obscures his vision.

Go outs worked well today too though my victim was just standing in water. Still, with all the distractions around I'm amazed that he could be so focused. A frisbee did distract him once but we got him back on task. He was too distracted to take leash and go out though. He does this well at home. Maybe he was thinking I was going to leash him and curtail his fun?!

Fun day at the beach!

Look amazing he is doing brilliantly, looks a lovely place to swim there, we need somewhere like that for Frank our beaches are great but dogs have to be leashed this time of year.

I've never seen a water test but I just found some good videos on you tube and also descriptions of the tests on the American newf club site which give me a lot of direction. I don't really care about getting any titles but if a situation arises I'd like obi to be prepared. That, and the training is fun. I'm not sure what we will work on in the winter!

Guess who has D today? 😒💩
And guess who had to clean the carpet. 😕

I hope obi is better soon. Any tips?

Sounds like he drank some water at the beach. If it was salt water it'll just be a matter of time. If lake water it could be any number of things, so a visit to the vet may be in order. (See Snuffles vet visit thread). If it just happened the one time just try your best to get him to drink lots of fresh water when your out there so he doesn't sneak drinks of the stuff he's swimming in.

Thanks. He is fine now. I sure hope it wasn't the lake. I didn't let him drink from the lake but hard not to swallow some water when you are swimming with a bumper I guess. Or, maybe he ate something nasty that I didn't see under the picnic table while the kids were eating ice cream.

Obi never really tells us he needs to go out so I just take him out often. I wish I could get him to warn us that he needs to go though.
