my dad brings home a ? Scorpion today. i have no clue what it is or how venomous it is and i am not thrilled. i didn't mind when he had empire scorpions because they were big and the venom is not bad.

but this thing he brought home is small and yellow. it fits in a bottle cap i tried to get a pic but it so small the camera would not focus on it. i told him it better not get out.

Yee cats and lil fishes..That..would grab my attention also. Watch it..and keep a distance until you have an excellent..ID..as to the kind and possible danger. You do live an exciting life Jennifer!! :) ina n HB n Kesa

I'm not a fan of things like this, too much potential for things to go wrong plus I prefer them in the wild, check the internet but with a yellow colour I think in the wild thats a beware of me sign.

Did he buy it from a pet store or find it somewhere outside? Most of the really venemous ones come from the middle east and are not something he would find running around in NY state......

I thought I'd seen on a nature show that the smaller the scorpion, the more deadly it is -- anyone else hear this too?

Keep a sturdy shoe handy for splatting, just in case.

The show I saw said that the smaller the pinchers the more dangerous the bite, as they need to rely on the venom instead of the pinchers. Not that I'd be out measuring them if I ran into a scorpion!

When we had a scorpion bite here, Poison Control told us it was the color of the scorpion that determined its danger. Maybe the clearer/yellowish ones were safer. I don't remember. ugh.

Well, lets see- the dogs knocked over the container, the cat opened it and it got stepped on by "mistake". Yeh, sure--- Splat, spat, splat and thousands more.

Me thinks smaller means harder to find if it gets out! EEK! I think I'm with the "splat" crew too, just to be safe.

lol its in his room thankfully away from the other pets. he got it from the pet shop but even they were worried that it is a dangerous one they didn't know what kind it is either.

he loves these things I'm just not happy because i dont know what kind it is. but if its anything like his last 2 empire one he will kill it soon enough. he thinks he knows everything and dose not care to research.

I don't blame you for not being happy! If My kids or Hubby brought a big spider home its grounds for Mom Moving out until it is gone! <shudder> Im not crazy about scorpions either!
I googled it and there are tonnes of small yellow scorpions!
I did find a site that says the smaller the pincers the more potent their venom is as they mostly depend on their pincers for prey and protection. Venom has to be built up again after using it.
even those not potent can be a problem especially if you are allergic to bee stings.

i hope it sstays in his room where it belongs! i vote for a splat too!

this is the best pic i could get of it. that is my dads hand not mine. i would be totally fine if he wanted spiders because i have 2 of my own. Gary almost brought home a giant centipede but thankfully he decided not. i wish they would like stick bugs or something like that i can deal with harmless.

so far Gary's the only one allergic to bees so he dose not even go near the spiders.

Where did he get it? That doesn't look like it came from a pet store. I can deal w/ my dh's reptiles, even have a few lizards myself. I draw the line w/ scorpions.
