Newfy Countdown

What? Not another newbie! Why yes it is!! Hi everybody. Was just surfing around, looking for Newfy stuff when I found this place quite by accident. This is great! I love the fact there's a Newfoundland forum where people can meet to trade anecdotes, advice and whatnot. They're the angels of the world, no doubt about it. Umm..the Newfies, not necessarily their people. LOL j/k.

Well, not really...

I've been a Newfy lover for years but have only admired them from afar and have never had one. However, I'm happy to report that tomorrow evening at 7:39 p.m., that's all about to change. Woo-hoo! For the first time EVER, I'm going to have a Newfy of my own to brighten my home. The name I have given her is Nani (meaning "beautiful" or "lovely one" in Hawaiian) and she's 8 weeks old, black with white on her chest, chin and on the tips of her two back tootsies and so gorgeous she makes you melt. I've been waiting for this little gal since June of 2000 and I gotta tell ya, the past year and a half has been one LONG pace-fest. One more day! One more day! *jumping up and down*

We've got the Pedialyte, crate, harness, treats and hearts full of love ready and waiting for when we finally pick her up at the airport. I'm nervous, excited, happy and worried all at once. Will she love me as much as I already love her? Will she like her new home? These are the thoughts that have been running repeatedly through my mind for the past two weeks now. Oh but this last day is going by so slow!

Anyway, wish me luck, you guys. I may not have any stories to share yet but I will very soon. Be prepared for pictures! No, be prepared for LOTS of pictures! *grins*

Welcome
You're in for alot of fun raising a newfie! Love her name. This forum has a great bunch of experienced newfie owners and new owners and if you have any questions, be sure to ask, even if you think they might sound silly

Oh duh...Congratulations!! That's great! I love the name 'Nani'. I've been looking for a Hawaiian name myself to name my future Newf.

WELCOME WELCOME
Lucky you getting a puppy. Some day I will get a puppy, but for now I have 3 rescues. By the way we started out with only ONE Newf but now we are proudly owned by THREE Newfs. You cannot own just one!!

(looks like most everyone is online tonight, lots of replies for 1.5 hours
)

Airport? Ah, that would explain the exact time. Had me puzzled for a little while. Hopefully in the name of "security" the clowns don't pull out her needle sharp puppy teeth. You never know when someone will attempt a hijacking with a newf
(sorry, lately I've been reading about the utter stupidity of what is being confiscated at airport checkpoints in the name of "security". One was a cop who had his nail clippers taken away from him. It was ok for him to carry his pistol (with the right paperwork filled out) onto the plane but those nail clippers could really hurt someone
).

Anyway, what was the topic?
Welcome and please do post some pictures. I took a bunch of Fezzik out in the snow romping around, beating up Bismark, towing Ian up the hill in the sled, chasing Ian over the hill on the sled, thawing out into a large puddle in the garage, etc. However when I tried to load them onto my computer I was told that the disk wasn't formatted correctly and wouldn't work (funny, the camera didn't have a problem with it). Oh well, there is always tomorrow (before it starts to rain).

Greg (can you tell that it has been a Monday
)

Hey Greg I get the feeling you and I may think alike. I'm amazed at the stupidity going on at the airports.

I have to go to Halifax Nova Scotia in February. I'm thinking of Driving if for no other reason that I can keep my Leatherman!

Any newfs in Halifax?

Yeah GAD I think that we do.

I've browsed your site and enjoyed it. When you get a chance come on out this way and we can vaporize some aspirin together (or at least sit around after with some of my homemade adult beverages and tell lies about why we couldn't
). However I don't think that I'll come visit you any time soon because NJ seems to have heartburn about the USP that rides my left hip most days
(not that I'm against giving authority heartburn but the tilting at windmills can get expensive at times).

Clean out the brass before heading to Canada.

Hey, thanks for the warm welcome! I'm definitely going to enjoy it here and making new friends.

Newby: The Pedialyte was suggested to me by Nani's breeder to give to her to combat the dehydration she might experience while on the plane. For the first 24 hours, she will drink that in lieu of water and her food will also be soaked in it. The electrolytes in the liquid will also help with the depression she may feel from being separated from her parents, her littermates and the other beautiful Newfies she was raised with.

Jggrosch: Just got back from visiting your Newfland website and I must say - that's a good lookin' family you got there! Please give Samantha, Panda and Sara my hearty congratulations and a warm hug for their individual successes. You must be extremely proud!
It is my dream to someday have a multi-Newfy family but for now, I'm happy I get to have this one little Miss. Luckily, we do have a wonderful Newfoundland Rescue organization right here in Las Vegas so when our household is ready, we'll definitely look into adopting another, regardless of color, sex or age. Oh but it's wonderful to at least have one baby Newfy to raise just once in your life, isn't it?

Lucy: This will take you to a great Hawaiian site to help you in your search for that perfect Hawaiian name for your Newfy: http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/Shores/6794/wl-petnames.html To further help you, this site offers a ton of links to other Hawaiian sites if you don't find what you're looking for. Happy surfing!

Anyway, I want to thank you all again for being so kind my first day here. In almost exactly 24 hours, I can say I'm owned by a Newf, too!

Bye for now,
Kanela

Wow! Looks like I missed a serious online party last night. Welcome to the group, Kanela. I'm very excited for you. I was shaking when I went to pick up my two babies. I have a 2 yr. old black female, and a very naughty (but sooo lovable) 7 mo. landseer male.
Now my husband thinks we need to find a brown newfie. I'm hoping we don't hear of any available in the next couple years. I probably wouldn't be able to resist! With newfies, the more the better!

Congratulations and welcome.

I, too, had to wait about 2 yrs for my Newf, Newman, but he is home now and muched loved. I am so excited for you.

Like you, I had butterflies and was nervous and almost sick. I had to drive from South Carolina to West Virginia (about 6 hrs) and I thought I was gonna have to stop to throw up.

Oh, I forgot to add that when I FINALLY got the call saying my puppy was born, I cried like a baby. It had been a long 2 yrs.

Yes its definately an addiction!! We got Maggie(landseer) last April shes now 10 1/2 mths old, then in Nov we rescued JoJo (black) and the general topic of conv. is what about Brown now!! But I keep saying we need to wait for a while before adding another so everyone can be settled in!

Good luck with your new pup!

WOW! It looks like a missed a good party!!! Instead, I was trapped at a Board Meeting for our all breed training club. I'm the recording secretary and was in the process of trying to take minutes in the midst of overblown egos, and a whole lot of droning on and on and on.....

(Shhhhsssssh Jeannie, don't say I said so!!!)

Anyways, I would much rather have been online visiting with all of you!!!!

Welcome welcome welcome! This is an exciting time... make sure you have lots of film on hand.. they grow fast.

And, I hope you got a good nights sleep!!!
