Newf Net is closing

GAD, Angela and I have been talking and it has been decided to close newf.net. Here is the reason why. The software is old. New users can't join because of a problem with the login system. To get new software is expensive as well as time consuming to install. As GAD put it: “It makes me sad to think that after 20 years it comes down to this, but I have to wonder if it makes more sense to shut the forum off and let the archives remain visible than it does to spend the time and energy to upgrade a largely dead environment.”

So sometime in the near future GAD will be closing NN. I am one of the first members ever to join NN. I’ve made many friends over the years. Some of you I have met in person some not. It is going to be hard to not check into NN after 20 years. Angela joined a couple years later and she feels the same way.

Until GAD closes the forum, why don’t we all post some of our favorite memories from over the years? Also share this on your FB page so those who have not been here is awhile may come back to say good bye and share their memories.

This makes me sad but I understand. I also don't (and won't for awhile) have a newf anymore so coming here recently has pretty much just been salt in the wound of losing Elvis.

This site was an amazing resource during our time with Elvis and I can't thank GAD and everyone enough for being so welcoming and helpful. There's no way we would have gotten through Elvis' TPLO surgery without the help of everyone who had walked that road before us.

it makes me very sad to loose NN, I was helped so much with my Abbey which is a long time ago... I "met" many friends and I met some in Europe and it is why I took up Water Training initially online and them I met "Capri", Bettina and I travelled with her to some awesome water training events.

I stopped using it as much when I could no longer post photos easily. As photos are really what I love most, just check my FB page, I was lost without it... we tried several different ways but it never happened easily, Not even FB links...... I will always have happy memories from here, lots of help and love... Support during some very tough times and extremely sad losses......but I do understand....

It will be like loosing a great friend....

NN has been a huge part of my life. Like Jeannie, I was one of the first to join and have checked in every morning for years. It's going to be like the passing of an old and revered friend, but I understand this decision.

GAD, I wonder if you know what a remarkable thing you did when you first set up this forum. It literally changed my life for the best and I will never forget. What I learned here, the inspiration to do more with my dog, and the amazing stories that were told over the years are all embedded in my mind forever.

Good luck and fond wishes to all the members who have shared their lives with us. May your days be plenty and all your wishes come true. Hug and kiss all your puppers for me.

I will really miss it, it helped me so much with my first two and the camaraderie was great.

The fact that people were supportive and the info section was a huge library at my fingertips.

This makes me sad. I found this place 14 years ago. We had just got Shiva and I was in over my head. Thank you to everyone always being so helpful and supportive. While I didn't post a lot, I always new I could come here and get a trusted answer. Finn is now our third newf. We have learned so much and I will always be grateful for Newfnet.

I hate hearing this but understand why it needs to be. Still though, I feel like I'm losing a wonderful friend. I love this place and have found much joy and comfort her and feel so connected to so many of you.

I joined in 2004 when we had our first newf. This was such a valuable resource for me and has been over the years. I've only met one or two forum members in real life, but I've loved reading about all of the forum members' newfs. My heart has melted at seeing the puppy pictures, I've laughed reading the stories and I've most certainly cried when reading about the passing of our beloved newfies. After 4 (long) years of being newf-less, we are about to get a puppy and it's sad to think of starting another journey without newf.net being active. That being said, I completely understand and have noticed how quiet it is on this forum these days. I wish you all the best and thank you for your expertise over the years!!

I dont think there are any other sites like this one. Good luck with your puppy.
There are various facebook Newf forums (though none as good as this one!!)
