Newf Grooming Videos - Penny Shubert & Eric Salas

The scissors really fly with grace in those videos. The Newf looks lovely. I actually like the shaggy wild look, but keep Orka's feet trimmed. He had a bath & dry yesterday. Bought a $200 scissors to trim the rest of him when I get the courage. The "must be clean and dry" to use the scissors is a bit of a challenge since by the end of the bath and drying he's maxed and by the next day he's not clean and dry anymore. This morning he howled and cried and raised a huge fuss, like he knew it was going to snow and ice for a week and he wanted out to be a wild dog before he had to hibernate. Read that a dog doesn't want to be "caught" by other dogs with a just-pampered-groomed smell

I'm almost finished with the shampoo bottle so will order this new 'does it all' stuff and give it a try.

FYI: If you order and pay now, you can pick the stuff up at Eukanuba with prior arrangements made. Otherwise, they won't ship until Dec. 6th...

We ended up going with the fluff-ball Capri instead of the hairless Vera, and had a great time at the seminar, it was definitely worth the trip :). We'll definitely be ordering the shampoo ASAP, and the threewaycomb (it looks very handy). A huge thanks to Penny and Umberto for the weekend.

Just received my shampoo order today! Bojie went straight into the tub after it arrived. So far, so great! His coat looks amazing, and my favorite part was how easy it rinsed out. I also used the conditioner on his chest, legs, and backside:)

GREAT !! Thank you so much for the links! I am actually going to a newf grooming seminar next weekend to listen to Penny Shubert & Umberto Lehman; I really can't wait!!

Do you happen to know who the dog on the table was? A Gorgeous girl :) !
Been to Penny's Seminar, North Central Newf Club held one a couple of years ago. Well worth the money. Learned alot. You'll have a good time.

So glad to hear you liked it Meg. Jill is in desperate need of a bath and grooming, but I'm trying to hold off until my order arrives. Did you have to use more than a tablespoon or two of the shampoo? I don't have one of those water recycling systems and I can't imagine that small an amount getting mine clean.

Yes, I had to use way more than that. I don't have one of those systems either, and I usually dilute my shampoos, but the bottle specifically said not too. I took a picture with my camera phone of how "poofy" his head is! I can't tell you how great it is to have the shampoo rinse out so easily!

Jill was bathed in the new shampoo and groomed today. It seemed to take less time to dry her than usual and her coat looks good. I was surprised that the conditioner is a leave in type. I tend to steer clear of doing that, but I did apply a small amount to her feathers and chest and left it in. Hopefully, no skin issues will crop up.

Ginny, do you have a hydrosurge system? If not, did you dilute the shampoo? It also looks like very little conditioner is used.

Oh and HOLY SMOKE, $50 for a comb, yikes! (Even though I'm tempted.)

I did the same thing with the conditioner. We haven't had any problems, and if anyones going to get hotspots, it would Boj. Zero residue and it's been over a week. Looks fab. In fact, we're doing it again this weekend, and I'm going to try it out on the puppy as well.

I don't have hydrosurge. I put the shampoo in one of those pointed hair dye bottles so I could put the shampoo where I wanted it and not waste any. If a dog was really dirty, I'd think you'd have to shampoo with another shampoo first. This stuff hardly lathers, but rinses out very easily. She looks good today after romping in the wet backyard for hours.

There are wide toothed combs out there that are tons cheaper than 50.

I am no groomer and don't know what the heck I'm doing. However, I'm experimenting and learning. Orka has a long coat and is constantly dripping wet, full of debris and muddy. He plays with a lot of other dogs and gets daily slobber plastered.

I saw this 'rake' at Western Pet Supply and bought it and it's my favorite grooming tool so far for getting those thick tufts of separating coat out without his annoyance. I brush first, then use this, and the result is silken, without pain for either one of us.

That's actually my favorite tool too, besides the Mars Coat king.

I have the shampoo also. Used it today and I am extremely pleased with the results on both Scarlet and the new puppy. I was using Crown Royale from Biovite prior and really liked it, but this does dry quicker and the hair is softer and fuller. I use a washcloth when I bathe my dogs. I know this sounds weird, but it works. So I poured a little shampoo on the moistened cloth and applied it that way. It didn't take any more shampoo than I used to use, about 4 oz. It doesn't suds up but it definitely is enough to leave product on all o the hair. I put a small amount of the conditioner on the feathers, the pants, and the chest and then just used my hands to fun it through the underbelly and sides. I know you are probably thinking that the washrag Creates a bunch of tangles, but it does not and I think it helps to distribute the shampoo to the entire coat as well as create some friction if your dog is dirty. Just my two cents.
